  2. Well, I can tell the judges will have heck of a homework - there are eleven twelve submissions and most of them are significantly worthy works ;) . Good luck to everyone!

  3. This piece is based upon the end of Deuteronomy and the beginning of Joshua. Moses is not permitted to go into the Promised Land but is able to see it Deuteronomy 34 (NIV)
1 Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the LORD showed him the whole land—from Gilead to Dan, 2 all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea, 3 the Negev and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, as far as Zoar. 4 Then the LORD said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.” 5 And Moses the servant of the LORD died there in Moab, as the LORD had said. 6 He buried him[a] in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, but to this day no one knows where his grave is. 7 Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone. 8 The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the time of weeping and mourning was over. 9 Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the LORD had commanded Moses. Joshua and Caleb were the only two spies of the Twelve because of their honesty were able to inhabite the land. Then scriptures then proclaim: 10 So Joshua ordered the officers of the people: 11 “Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Get your provisions ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the LORD your God is giving you for your own.’” (Joshua 1, NIV)

  5. You're free to leave if you don't want to discuss anything musical or make a simple contribution to the topic. I think mistaking expression of feelings for lack of knowledge is not something wise to do while discussing music, since oftentimes we chose to focus on one or the other, and hopefully the better music will 9/10 captivate the heart over the mind. Anyone can know and understand music if they just listen without any bias, as a musician will more intuitively understand the whole before they put a label on the individual parts, since it is the whole that reveals its level of interest, while the parts only reveal their nature and are useless without form.

  7. Nice attitude bro, really creates a good atmosphere. I think you should check out the score as well and just dig into it. Personally I think the recording you listed is too slow, I would prefer it in a faster tempo, and also with the choir added, like in this one:

  8. Borodin's sound is very unique and touches the spirit. Though I don't rate the composer, nor generally the piece, but I find something that stands out about any segment. 2:10-3:10 stands out pretty significantly as a supernatural presence that is rather difficult to evoke by, say, the likes of Mahler or Tchaikovsky, whose tones don't commonly bend that originally in the same place, but rather who took an overall different perspective on music which paid off. So I really appreciate a lot of Borodin's approach and respect to music and think this is the nicest evocative segment of music I have heard.
