  1. I have many short breaks, mainly due to my complete lack of willing... This may sound weird, but that's true: sometimes I don't want to compose anything. This feeling may last for several days. After a while, the urge to compose begins to grow again, but I stil wait a little bit more to start again. As this urge almost always comes with a musical idea, I try to develop this idea in my mind before actually starting to compose it.

  2. Ok, I have given this some thought and what I would like to do is this: I am choosing 4 finalists. These 4 will have the opportunity to make any edits that they wish by Jan 1. By then, I need finalized parts and scores. On Jan 3, when students return to school, we will sight read each composers piece and choose the winner as a group. The finalists are: Ian - Sonatina Austentine - String Serenade (Valse mvt) Sam Wu - I am allowing him to submit a shortened version or piece since I enjoyed his quite long piece. Timmy - Epitaph

  4. I'm cheating because Michael Finnissy was actually born in 1946, but he is my favorite living composer. As for people actually born after the deadline: Jürg Frey (b. 1953, Swiss) - with Finnissy, probably my favorite composer alive today Georg Friedrich Haas (b. 1953, German) Gérard Pesson (b. 1958, French)

  5. It will take me a couple of days to get all the nominations in order. When I do, I'll post them as they stand. If anybody wants to contest other pieces (every category has good competition) and suggest other pieces, then I will take suggestions at that time. But, know that they will have to be through PM so anonymity remains.
