Morivou
K, so I am surfing my favorite composing forum (YC), and I see annoying Amazon ads in the middle of the posts, WHY???? Are we being invaded? :P
Franzman
there's one in this very thread!!!! :O srsly, perhaps they need bandwidth money.
James H.
INFILTRATION! The one is title "In Defense of Food".... at least the ones on the homepage and Wiki are music-related, that's where I first noticed them...
robinjessome
Guys....who cares? I can't begrudge the Mikes for trying to recoup a few costs here and there. Maintaining this thing must be expensive. Perhaps you'll see something interesting. Otherwise, ignore them...
Morivou
No, I was just wondering WHY they were there.
Will Kirk
I actually think it's pretty cool It might even work if they put more things that are music related up, seeing as we're all musicians, it might just benefit the site members greatly

Morivou
It seems that way. Maybe this could be an advantage.
chopin
I am trying to monetize the site a bit. But I am carefully choosing products in which I think users on this site may be interested in. If you have any product suggestions, please let me know. You may notice the store, and I can advertise whichever products I want from Amazon. The wiki advertises products that I specifically recommend in the store. Regarding the ads within the forum, Amazon is supposed to choose ads according to the website content, but I will give it a few days, and if this doesn't work out and the ads are irrelevant to our content, I will change the strategy. robinjessome
Chopin - I think it's fair, and quite unobtrusive. What I'm seeing are well tailored - either from my own use of Amazon, or persons/products mentioned on the forum. (I'm inclined to believe the former, as I KNOW my wife wants a KitchenAid mixer...which has conspicuously appeared alongside Paul Bley records :whistling: )
robinjessome
I think it's fair, and quite unobtrusive. Frankly, I'm surprised you haven't done it sooner. ;) Also, the content it well suited...either through my own use of Amazon, or through persons/products mentioned on the forum. chopin
I'm not liking the ads being served by Amazon on the forum, at all. Don't worry, if the ads are this lame by the end of the week, I will think of something else.
bob stole my cookie
Actually, the only complaint I have about the ads is that they keep distracting me from the threads I'm reading because I clink on them out of interest.
Abadoss
I can understand the need for ads to pay for bandwidth, etc, but I don't think they should be in the middle of the thread. It's particularly distracting to the flow of the thread and bleeds blatant marketing. I would suggest putting it at the top or the bottom, but certainly not in the middle. Nirvana69
I noticed them too. They're a bit intrusive but after a little while, I got used to them. Guest Jen318tkd
I'm cool with the ads, the only ones I have been seeing are ads for composition software :)
Anders
And what's with prices that are ''too low to display''? Are they like negative prices; they pay you for purchasing the product?
nikolas
Anders. There is a specific law that forbids companies to advertise their prices if they are lower than a certain point. There is nothing about how low you can go, but there is a law on how low you can show your prices to be. Some kind of stupid fair plan for merchants... nikolas
Ok I have a problem. When I quick reply on a post (the above one for example), I am taken to some ascot=amazon.something site, without ever showing up. This is most annoying actually, since I'd like to keep browsing and I browse quite fast, so any ideas on why?

This is most annoying actually, since I'd like to keep browsing and I browse quite fast, so any ideas on why? I can confirm this. I've brought it to chopin's attention - I assume he will either fix it or prevent ads from being displayed to registered users.
