nikolas is right. He sent me a note explaining the situation. It always struck me how chopin can spend such a large amount of money. Unless chopin's employer made a really bad April Fool's joke, I am afraid we'll have to move to soundclick. I don't like the idea either, but it's better if we continue there than just leaving the entirety of YC to random people.

We've made a start here and we owe to continue this. YC will continue to exist even if the domain is lost and the name is changed. To cheer everyone up, it's like V said from the movie "V for Vendetta". He said, "I can't die. I am an idea, ideas never die", and although this sounds very corny, we have to apply it to YC.

Make sure you get the e-mails of all the people you still want to contact from here, like I have with nikolas, Gardener, SSC, Mark, Saiming and others, and let's just wait until the first weeks are over.

Sorry I left such a huge comment, but I made a terrible mistake by not believing nikolas, as he explained in his note. I will quote his message to anyone who wants me to.

Take care, and above all, look on the bright side of life (as the monty pythons say :) )

Oh wow, he's in EST too?

I think the fact that this was posted right at the beginning of April 1st today clears any doubt from my mind that this isn't true (not that there was that much doubt to begin with).

...unless he's known for being rather sadistic, which might change things.

No, and there are a few good reasons nikolas told me. Firstly, because if he had set a date everyone would go frantic, and secondly because he has to sign the contract himself, which includes posting the contract to chopin and back, and chopin can't officially state the date properly until he knows that the contract has been received and countersigned on their part. I think there are a few more reasons, but I can't go through nikolas' pm right now, I can't go through reading it. I never knew chopin actually took such a heavy burden on him to maintain YC as it was.

I am truly sorry, though.

As of tonight, the date of closing is unknown yet, because I have to wait until SoundClick releases their funds into the escrow. However, I promise I will give you a status update tomorrow, during work, and hopefully SoundClick will get to me by tomorrow. I apologize for holding everyone in suspense. Thank you for your patience.

Chopin by highlighting the word "work" are you giving us a hint that you still actually have a job and this WAS actually an April Fool's joke? I am still slightly hopeful but getting more pessimistic by the minute...

another thing: has anyone read the 'The Future of Young Composers' thread?

It talks about how Chopin has already paid a first 'phase' in a 'four phase payment'.

Does he get that refunded if it is shutting down?

That is what me think it being an April Fools. He had already paid it so literally the service has to be given to him, no?

If it weren't an April fools joke, chopin wouldn't have not clarified to us that it wasn't an April fools joke while posting this above reply after all the replies before his previous reply. Therefore it must be an April fools joke! There you have it. Sorry for spoiling the fun, but the day is at its end.

I agree! :d soundclick sucks!

Okie time to end this semi-officially! It must 2nd of april everywhere in the world now!

April's Fool everybody!

Gotcha!

For the record, as far as I know this was Mike's idea (both Mikes I guess) and when I saw it, I just decided to join and play along a bit... Juji also joined much later in the day, after a few pagers...

Back to the regular stuff. :)

Those who are so clever and figured it out: WOAH! Amazing! such an acomplishement! well done [/sarcasm]

Those who played along: Thank you all!

Woo! I'd like to say you guys didnt' get me but you did...for a few hours until I had the bright idea to check the Soundclick forums. :P Surely, something as big as a YC-Soundclick merger would be cause for some kind of anouncement. And when I didn't see anything...well...that's pretty much when I knew. Anyway, well done but please never scare us like that again. :D
