Hello everyone,

this is peal (pronouced pee-yaal :D) I am about 15 and doing my o-levels right now.

well.....err.....what else? i am not really good at making intros. :P

well, i want to thank the admins of this forum. this is a very cool forum. i googled this site out and i think it is awesome. ....keep up the good job, you guys.

well, judging from the kind of members in this forum, i guess i dont belong here. i am not a composer and i dont think i will ever consider taking music as my professional career. but i love to listen to all kinds of music and i do have a lot of interest in it. i have been really listening to music about the age of 9-10 (but before that i used to hate music i dont know why). i mostly prefer listening to rock and metal music nowadays, but i also have a soft corner for western classical music (although i dont think i can really understand them:( ). and i also like to listen to new or young musicians (and i guess that is the reason why i joined this forum :P. So, i hope i'll hang around here from time to time and post occasionally whenever possible. ....and thats all i guess(i hope its not too long).

oh and i think it would be nice if i added a few lines about myself. well i am a shy kind of person. always been the little kid in the corner nobody cares to notice. and i rarely talk to people unless i am being talked to. most of my past time, i spend listening to music. a very homely person in general. try to avoid parties and crowdy places. i am usually scared of meeting new people and at times act very weird. but once i am relaxed i guess i am not that bad. ....and that should be it.

Thank you

wow d-vyne! you sound just like me 2 years ago ( 17 now, soon 18 )! i was a metalhead/hard rocker, i was scared of other people and anti-social. but i suggest if you really enjoy music, you keep your interest in it ( both metal, rock and classical) and some day a "new horizon" may appear to you :P. well... at least thats what happend to me .

welcome to the forum and i hope you enjoy it here! and dont be shy :P no one will eat you here. :D

d-Vyne, you'll fit in just fine! This is more than just a music community, it is a community in general. No need to compose to be a part! Welcome!

It'll probably happen because you want what you said to happen. It reminds me of the goth called at high school. In truth, you are just a fuzzy bear!

Please do not stereotype gothic people ;)

d-Vyne - You will fit in fine here, and you never know, you may pick up composing just from talking to some of the people here. Welcome! :) However, Soul...I doubt you will be here for very long.

Hello everyone. My name is Michael, although I meant for it to be Alfonso, after the Spanish king Alfonso X. I'm still not sure how I botched that one.

I've been enchanted with music my whole life, but just recently started studying it. I've had a cello since I was sixteen, but just started taking lessons last semester. Under the recommendation of my teacher, I'm auditioning for my Univeristy's symphony orchestra next semester. I was also the organist at my church during my senior year in High School.

My three favorite composers are Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. (Bach is at the top and Mozart and Beethoven share equal status right below him.) I'm also a big fan of Dvorák, Saint-Saëns, Mendelssohn, Faure, and Gershwin.

Composers I dislike:

John Rutter

Varèse

My other big passion is Linguistics. I've studied theoretical syntax, German, French, Spanish, Hebrew, and Ngiyambaa. (It's this obscure Australian language that 12 people spoke twenty years ago. I think they're all dead now.)

That's pretty much it.

Hey everyone

My name is Casey, and I'm a Jazz Composition major at Berklee College of Music up here in Boston, MA. I found this forum randomly through a Google search for something completely unrelated, but it seems like a good place for me to be.

I've played trumpet since I was six years old, so that's about 13 years now, and I'm a junior at Berklee, working my donkey off to finish up my major. I've been writing for about 5 years or so.

This seems like a pretty cool place, and I look forward to talking with you all about music.

~Casey

Hey there and welcome to YC!! ;) This place is awesome. I think its addicting.............lol. Everyone here is nice and friendly and the music is awesome. So ya................ hi!

-William ;)

latinus, -a, -um ~ of or pertaining to Latin (language); Latina, -ae ~ Latin (language)

"One of the many beauties--or problems, for some--of Latin is its ease of form; as long as all endings are correct in their respective clauses, the words within any sentence may be in any order."

Hi, I'm Charlie, 16, from the little town of Brewster, Massachusetts, USA. I've been composing from the first minute I sat down at the beat up piano in my garage 8 years ago. Though I must admit my first composition consisted of only three chords, two notes each. :)

I'm in a lot of music related activities at my high school. I've passed into the high school jazz ensemble for both years I've been attending the school. I am also a member of the Nauset World Music Ensemble, an afterschool group which is the only high school extracurricular world music ensemble in the country. This group has been valuable to me because we only play original music, so I am able to experience a group composition environment. I am a member of a class at school called Music Performance Workshop, which allows students to create a portfolio of music, perform with other talented students, and compose original pieces. Finally, I am the assistant musical director of this year's high school musical production.

Outside of school, I've played keyboard in 4 shows at the local theater, I play piano and drums at my church each Sunday, and somehow I get sucked into a lot of recitals and gatherings and such.

:D So yeah, I'm a busy kid.

I dream of being a composer. I love sitting down at a piano and playing something that's never been played before. I see music as a path to God, and I often use music as a form of prayer. It's such fun to compose.

So yeah, that's me. If you read all that, you officially don't have ADD.

HAHA :D ironically, thats the only line i read

welcome to the YC :)

Hi! I

Hi !

I'm Veronika, 16, from France :D

I compose a little on the piano, all the styles : blues, jazz, classic.

My favourite composers are Frederic Chopin, Piotr Tchaïkovsky, Anton Dvorak...

I hope to find friends here, musicians whose musical view and sensibility are the same as mine. See you soon !

PS: downloaded Finale NotePad 2006, I'll share some of my musical works as soon as I learn how it works (before, I composed only on the piano, without softwares).

Bye

Veronika :D

  • 2 weeks later...

For those who don't know me, I'm "Ariel David", but you can call me as my real name: Arthur Reglay. I've composed many piano partitures, but my hiperactivity makes me play and compose ONLY Impromptus and the like.

For those who know me... Wait: nobody knows me! :D

Well, hope you keep composing and reading books.

Welcome to the forum - I hope you can learn, contribute, and get alot out of it!

By the way, I just moved your post to here, because it's the thread for introducing yourself.

Hi everyone! I'm EclecticPhilosopher. I'm 14, and I'm homeschooled. I've been composing music since I was 5 or 6. I've played piano for 10 years and I absolutely love it! I've (dare I use this word) mastered several difficult pieces, including Edvarg Grieg's March of the Trolls, Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and (can't remember composer's name) Nocturne in E minor. I like taking conversations on strange tangents, playing my drawbar organ and composing music late at night. I am in the local Varsity High School Band playing flute and bassoon, and in the jazz band playing flute. I am very excited about joining this site, and hope to learn a lot!

EclecticPhilosopher

Well my name is Matthew Sai Ming Sikorski I live in sweden but got a polish dad and a malaysian/chinese mum. I started composing when I was bout 12, wasnt anything serious, some greater works were made when i turned 14, and I am now 15.

Well what more is there to say...

Hey, I'm Chris. I don't know if anyone remembers me, but I was involved a lot when this location of YC first opened up, and I kinda drifted away. Anyway, I'm 15, and glad to be able to listen to the work on this site, which is rather amazing.

I'm not a particularly advanced composer, but I really want to learn, especially about counterpoint and harmony, as my eventual goal is to be able to write musical theater, specifically, but to generally communicate as much emotion as I can with my music. So... hi!

Hey, I saw this forum while researching John Cage for an essay.

My name is Drew Dominguez, I live in the Bay Area near San Frans and Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. I'm 17 years old and am a full time student at a local community college as a composition major.

I am a Percussionist and play anything that involves me hitting something. I play drums in a rock band and in my church's worship band. I am an aspiring composer and writer and write librettos for the ledgendary Anthony Duarte of Interlochen Academy. I am currently writing my own version of an opera based on a novel I wrote, a short minuet and my first sympnony is on the back burner. I mostly have written smaller peices, some only 2 or 3 minutes long, but I've decided to at least try bigger works for a while.

My influences include John Cage, Erik Satie, Chopin, Wagner(freaking Ring Cycle, I listened to it all in one sitting!), Beethoven, Brahms, Prokofiev (I named my Tiger after him!), Aaron Copeland, Rachmaninoff, Anthony Duarte (as well as many others but you the idea), The Bands; Yes, King Crimson, Sting, Rush and many others.

I live with my grandparents, have a loving a wonderful girlfriend, my two best friends are piano prodigies and we love jamming, and I have many other things to say so just ask me!

Oh sup I just found this thread.

Erm, I'm Fingernail, otherwise known as David Massey. I play the guitar. I compose some stuff, very little completed. I like Mahler and Gershwin and Radiohead and stuff. Also Dowland, and Bach. Very little experience/liking of Mozart or Haydn since there is no serious guitar repertoire from that period.

My style is kindof modern but I have a real soft spot for functional harmony, and base a lot of stuff on a sort of post-romantic perception... although I also love totally chromatic chords.

Anyway, my website is www.speaking-guitar.com if anyone's interested.

I'm working on a new guitar concerto!
