Unfortunately, it matured into a project quite a few years ago, but because it's not an official project (nor will it be, certainly, while WB has a death-grip on HP), I've been directing my attentions elsewhere, and so haven't posted my notes or scores as I would've liked to. Now that the Website is finally up, I'll be able to post some notes, including plans for voice types, tonality and a few hand-written themes, as well as a couple more samples, when I have a moment...

Thoughts about the ground bass...? Certainly, you can imagine the character references and the need for stagnation/repetition in the bass, but I'd be happy to hear other opinions. -would've posted the sample here, but it looks as if incomplete pieces aren't allowed.

Hi, I'm Lacy from Florida. I am just about to start my first year at Florida State University as a music unclassified major, hopefully to be admitted into the music composition program.

I have composed songs at least since I was eleven, singing them with no other way to put them down, until I began tinkering around on the piano at around twelve, which is also the year I began to play the flute.

By now, I have completed several songs, had some them performed, and begun a lot more(over forty five). As of now, I am hoping to build up my portfolio as well as learn a lot from this site.

My interests in music lean toward the soundtracks of various movies and videogames, which incorporate endless styles. I love many different styles of music, and appreciate the freedom of style scoring videogames and movies could give me. Movie and Videogame music has been my biggest influence, as well as my inspiration.

I aim to become a video game music composer, and am in love with the work of several japanese composers that have scored various video games and t.v. series: Yoko Kanno, Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobou Uematsu are some of them. I also idolize John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Joe Hisaishi and Benoit Jutras.

Of course, there are countless other "popular" music that I also enjoy and appreciate, so really there is no one genre that captures my heart more than the rest.

I am glad that I finally found a site where I could learn from other people with my shared interest in composing. :)

Lacy! Welcome to yc!!!

Hi ...hope to be learn more from here..

just got finish practicing and rehearsing..for a play..

Hope to get more friends here and share interests..

Welcome to yc!

Hi guys,

My name is Kevin and I just happened across this forum while browsing the internet. I've been composing since a few months after I started playing classical guitar 5 years ago, beginning in high school. I am pretty much self-taught and started playing tablature. I've since then learned to read a little music, and some music theory, but only either on my own time or through experimentation. What I'm trying to say is, I'm music illiterate. :(

I am planning on formally taking music theory next fall in college, and then a composition sequence the year after that if possible. I am majoring in electrical engineering though, so I am always hard pressed but I love music very much so I am trying my best to pull through with the music classes on top of engineering.

For a while, I've been trying to find a forum just like this, where I can share my music and listen to others. I had just finished something I was very proud of, but to be honest it doesn't stand up to some of the things I've heard here. But it has been great inspiration and I will hopefully do better on my next composition.

I will go post up my piece because, in the end, I know it can use a lot of improvement from people more knowledgeable in music than I! Hope to get to know some of you.

Uh-oh... Omar has some competition as YC's greeter :shifty:

Who?:censored:

we'll see about that

hahaha! XD

By the way, welcome everyone to :yc:! Have fun here!

Aloha,

I am Zachary Orosco and I come from the far away islands of Hawaii. I am 17 years old and aspire to become a music composer for movies and video games(I love video games!). I'm thinking of pursuing a music degree in music composition and theory when I graduate. I also dream continuing my grad studies at USC or Berkley College of Music.

One thing about me that's weird is.....I am classical music person. I love listening to classical music!:w00t: My favorite composers are Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, John Rutter, and Bach.

I'm been a clarinet player for about 6 years now(Go Clarinets!), and dabbled into violin for a year. I am planning on taking private piano lessons this year(I used to take piano lessons, but quit for after 3 lessons because I didn't like the teacher and I felt I wasn't learning anything).

So, I apologize if I practically dumped all this information on you at the last minute, hehe :)

I am excited and look forward to learning a lot from this forum!

Until again,

Zach(A.K.A. Zuo17)

Why is that weird?

thatguy,

That's a very good question! lol :)

I think it's weird for me(hard to imagine since I'm now in a Composers' forum) because I don't see a lot of people my age and teenagers getting so excited about classical music. I see all my friends who casually acknowledge it's existence but want to hear more "popular" music, my family tries to avoid listening to it and even get irritated when I blast Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 in my room at night.

Until again,

Zach

Hi! Welcome to YC!

One thing about me that's weird is.....I am classical music person.

It's definitely not weird here, we all appreciate that type of music. I myself was a bit shocked of this wonderful discovery, that there are more people enthusiastic about this type of music than I had ever anticipated.

Same here, of course! The internet is a strange place! In fact, I happened to find one person on here that was almost exactly like me... a doppelganger. But then he decided to start composing increasingly less common practice and now we just argue over tonality all the time.

But seriously... people would ask me (at school) what kind of music I listen to or I'd be talking to the sales rep. at Best Buy about equipment, and they're always astonished that I find classical music to be interesting, then proceed to ask me...

"Oh come on, what do you REALLY listen to?"

"... I listen to classical music."

"You don't like... rock? Or... country, or... classical rock, or techno, or... psychadelic rock... or... ?"

"Uhhh, not really. Not much, no."

"... so you mean, you don't write pop? What are your songs like, then?"

"They're not songs. Pieces... I write classical music. You know... for more orchestral ensembles, and the like."

"..."

and hey, I met the nicest Wal-Mart greeter just yesterday... a nice old man who pulled out and wheeled shopping carts out for people. :)

Well my name is Teshauna. I'm currently 14 and i started playing the piano at 5, violin at 7, viola at 10, and cello/bass as I entered middle school. I've only composed one song and everyone that played it loved it. I will be going to the performing arts academy(Salem High School) in September. Ohh and i live in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Greetings everyone!

My name is Drew, and as you might be able to tell by my username, Mozart is my favorite composer.

I'll attempt to be be brief so not to cause you all to become crosseyed with reading. :)

I have played the piano since I was five years old, I wrote little ditties when I was younger, mostly from memory, and most without the slightest idea of musical composition. I am a very creative person, I can play and write music, I can draw quite well, and I am good at writing stories. (Sports on the other hand are a major downfall of mine)

Currently I am 16, and I am a student at a high school level. My musical theory training consists of one full year of Music Theory and Composition, including everything from clefs and key signatures to counterpoint and non harmonic tones. (My teacher deserves to teach at a University, he is very talented)

I also have taught myself to compose songs by listening to great works of great composers, in this case mostly Mozart. Not only does this give me ideas, but it also has allowed me, for example, to understand the basics of a Mozartian Piano Concerto. (Listening to Most of the first and third movements of all of his Piano Concertos at least twelve times can cause you to not only fill your head with jumbles of notes, but it allows you to anticipate and learn the structure).

I have written few songs, about twelve. When I attempt to write a multi-movement song, my lack of discipline usually allows me to complete the first movement and neglect the others. :D

I am here to have my songs critiqued by experts in the field, to share my opinions with fellow composers and hear their opinions, and to learn more in the field of music composition (sadly my school only offers one year of music theory).

I hope to hear from you all, and I hope to know many of you. :)

Thanks.

Welcome!

Hi, I'm Tyler. I have only been composing for a couple months, but I really like it. I put about 3 or 4 hours of composing a day into my routine along with other sports I do.

Welcome to people since my last post.

:D

:yc: is a great place! Have fun!

Hi. I enjoy composition (obviously) and I have been doing it for a few years, although most of the stuff I start ends up not being finished. My favourite composer is Beethoven (yes, I know it's not exactly original) but for the sake of sounding interesting I say it's Shostakovich. I hope to be around the forums for a while.

He sounds lame.

Well, I hope to see you around for a while.

Welcome ;)

My favorite composer is....*thinks* too many...but I would have to say Debussy, Mahler, and Ravel.

Debussy, Mahler, and Ravel.

One of these things is not like the other. One of these things just isn't the same.

Welcome!

Salutations!

I hope that I can honestly call myself a young composer soon; so far, I've produced very little. I am 19, and will be a Sophomore at the Unversity of Rochester this fall. I have been studying Horn with Lauren Becker at Eastman and hope to begin conducting courses with Dr. Mark Scatterday at the same institution very soon.

My favorite composer is Mahler. I also love Ravel, Wagner, Korngold, Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Holst, and Salonen.

Though I plan on concentrating in conducting, I have become a self-educated specialist in orchestration and instrumentation. I discovered YC while attempting to learn more about Clarinets in A, and visited several wind and brass pages out of curiosity. I hope to share some of my knowledge about musical instruments, and to learn more about the process of composition.
