Why did you say that?

Because someone might need a good violin. I know his work - ingenious!

I thought Baldrick's logic was the worst man has ever witnessed, I guess I have been proven wrong.

Hello all. I am sometimes known as Adam, and I was directed to this thread by some red text. The red text looked angry, so I decided to comply.

I came across the forum while googling quartal harmony... I think. I was searching for information about pieces that use quartal harmony by some means, anyway.

I'm not a musician; I don't play any instruments (at least not any better than the French horn players in K522). I occasionally write some music to amuse myself, but nothing better than a few three-minute sketches. Still, I find music quite interesting---especially some of the "esoteric" things like microtonality. (At least, I find them interesting in theory. In practice, nearly all the music I listen to---which is a pretty small selection, really: I own less than a hundred CD's, which would make me look quite n00bish compared to anyone REALLY into classical music---is pretty mainstream. Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, Mahler, Carter, Wuorinen, etc. I've heard some 20th century JI stuff but it's generally not been as appealing. Well, some stuff by Ligeti and La Monte is cool, but I'm no fan of Harry Partch or Ben Johnston.) I'm actually a physics student, so I guess I just like the whole idea of building a system using numbers and equations. Even if the music I like doesn't fit into that system ...

Also, since I'm not a musician, please forgive me if I say anything ignorant (but don't hesitate to correct me either). Ignorant things like forgetting the fact that "microtonality" is really more common, on a global scale, than stuff written in 12tet and calling music from cultures no less legitimate than ours "esoteric".

If I make any posts besides just this first---as it seems many of the people who've posted in this thread have only made one post; and indeed I might not post out of a complete lack of anything useful or insightful to say, and an embarrassment in how stupid the questions I might have are---they'll probably be questions about tuning, microtonality, or works that I should listen to. Or modulation. (See what I meant by embarrassingly stupid questions?)

I also like long walks on the beach and I don't love Jesus.

Hopefully the red text will be quelled now...

OH SNAP! IT'S SCHRODINGER!!! 's dog? hmph. Cat's are were it's at.

Welcome to :yc: Adam!

Hi,

Probably the reason people are only posting one thread here is that this particular thread is for new members. I just joined as well and intend to post in some of the other threads or start my own thread.

I will be posting one today about Sibelius. Welcome to this forum. I don't own the forum but believe that it can help all of us.

What do you mean?

why did you quote me? :O

Hi my name is clyde patterson I recently just finished high school. I am an accomplished composer, I mostly like to write classical music with a mix of modern music. I started to play the piano during my junior year of high school along with composing. In My senior year I quickly picked up the trombone, bassoon, and baritone and my first symphony was performed at the mondavi center.

Mondavi center means nothing to us. What and where is that?

Btw- Welcome! :D

Welcome Clyde.

Mondavi center=UC Davis Performing arts center (Mondavi Center)

Hi,

The only reason I quoted you is because I'm brain dead. My mistake was thinking it was you. Afterward I saw that it was schrodingasdawg that posted the one about not being a musician and about people only having one post.

So the rest of this post is for schrodingasdawg:

schrodingasdawg, don't be embarrased that you aren't a musician. You might be more of a musician than you think. And you might have a lot of usefull information to post to this group.

What do you mean?

Greetings, have fun.

Uh... Hi. :p I'm new. :D

I do not consider myself a composer at all; more like "a kid who likes to mess around on finale notepad." But in joining here, I hope to learn some... stuff about composing... and get better. I play the viola (yaaay!!!) and the saxophone. Hope y'all like me. :D

Welcome to YC... the Force is strong here...

:stoicjedi:

Yes. Welcome to YC!

MTFBWY

:D

MTFBWY

I don't know if I'm the only one but, ... could you please write complete words because each time I see those kind of things 98% of the times I have no idea what they mean .....

I guess I only catch "LOL" .....

It means...

May the Force be with you...

:stoicjedi:

Sorry.. it's actually a Star Wars thing... since we were talking about Jedi and such...

It means "May the Force Be With You"

lol... oddly enough, I was playing KotOR just before I got online...

lol... oddly enough, I was playing KotOR just before I got online...

:D YAY!!

You know, I've never played the original KOTOR. I've played KOTOR II 3 times, but everyone keeps telling me that the original KOTOR has a much better storyline than KOTOR II...

Maybe I should play it soon... lol

Welcome. :stoicsith:
