Err, what do I say? I just flew in on the last flight from Tijuana and I'm not sure how to complete this monologue so I'll just sit down and tell the boring truth.

I used to be an average kid till I took up piano in Grade 5. Now, seven years later I'm a straight A student, probably owe it all to music, and was recently accepted into University to study piano and composition, composition being my preferred major. I'm pretty psyched.

About me, otherwise I live in Vancouver BC with two brothers, both also musicians though neither have ventured into composition. A shame, because I think it's one the better branches of music.

Any questions feel free to ask, but I pretty much covered all the important stuff.

I completely skived over this thread before, I've been here for a couple days now, love the forum! Anyways, I'm seventeen and going to highschool in the US (PA). Self-taught piano began at around age twelve and lessons on piano and violin two years later. Been composing for about as long as I played piano, I used to spend all night writing music on the piano by candlelight until morning. Now I use Finale. :toothygrin:

I am also self-taught on the following instruments: flute, clarinet, recorder, horn, trumpet, tuba, battery percussion, mallet percussion, and a tiny bit of guitar. I'm not so good at guitar (too many strings!) and I'm only just learning tuba and euphonium. The rest I can play as well as and some better then most of the kids in my school who specialize. I'm not trying to brag, my school has some sucky instrumentalists!

I'm a member of my school marching band (Sousaphone this year, xylophone before) and my local youth orchestra (violin).

Hello. My name is Mark Galang, a composer from the Philippines. I am actually an occupational therapist by profession; however, I have been composing music as my other "occupation" since my teens. As far as musical performance goes, my top proficiency is at improvisation since I'm not very fond of studying sheet music for the sake of performance. Studying sheet music proves useful for me when I study various aspects of composition . My instruments of choice are pianos and synthesizers although I can play guitars (acoustic, classical, electric, electric bass), drums, and the melodica. Around 4 or 5 years ago, I've been toying around bamboo flutes and the soprano recorder to widen my musical "arsenal" along with the instruments mentioned above and computers.

Hello,Im 11 and started writing little pieces about a year ago.I play piano, but mainly compose a rough sketch with no instrument first,then 'model it' on the computer (I have Finale 2003).I rarely use my piano for composing.Ive being looking for forums to post my musc on as the finale website is really rubbish.If only I had Sibelius...Sibelius music is the best!!!Ah well, ive found this.Im only Grade 4 music theory and working to grade 3 piano,but hey..I only started a year ago.Ive done lots of little piano pieces and a string quartet (and a string trio).

Hi... My name is Androne Sebastian (please!!! call me Sebby or Seb) I'm 17 years old (18 in a couple of weeks :P ) and I'm a student at music (just finished the 11th grade in the High School of Music from Brasov)! I'm from Romania,living in Azuga , Prahova county and learning in Brasov! I've started composing about a year or two ago when I received a PC and the Finale software! I study the clarinet and also the piano (complementary), I like participating to contests, national, international with both interpretation (playing the clarinet) and composing. I'm a very ambitious person but also very shy... ;) That's why I didn't participated in the forums, and another reason would be the fact that my English was worst than it is now ! After almost a year I've decided to take this step: to introduce myself to the community!

Another thing is that I have real problems with my self confidence, and some times , to deal with it, I explode by being ...not so modest... :( That's why I prefer sometimes to shut up...

Until now my favorite composer was Enescu of course, but I'm now very attracted by Stravinsky's "Sacre du Printemps" - (a.k.a."Rite of Spring") and Petrushka... I am not so attracted by baroque style , even though I adore some of Bach's works! I've started to listen more and more avant-garde music (George Crumb, John Cage,Gyorgy Ligeti , and others... ) and I'm very intrigued by it... I hope that I will approach this kind of music as soon as possible! :)

I'm really glad that I've found this site! And I'm sorry that I didn't participated as I should be... I will try from now on... Promise!
