Yes, I too am excited! We don't get many recording artists here (at least not on par with the number of composers here... haha)! I cannot wait to hear your music! Stick around.

Sometimes, the early months at YC can be rough, but you'll get over it if you stick through it!

Hi,

I joined last night after searching around the net finding somewhere cool to talk to other young composers.

I'm not brilliant, and still quite young. I wrote a piece in a few hours thats gone down as an A* (highest grade possible in UK) so I must be doing something write.

I quite like the minimalist style, and my main influence would be Einaudi - great pianist!

Thats it really, if you want to know more, just mail me :)

I'll try and upload my composition later :)

I look forward to hearing from you :)

Hi. I am seyhan from turkey. I am a music teacher. I want to be good composer...

'Ello! I'm a junior in high school who's played piano since 4th grade, and am just recently getting into composition. I started playing brass instruments for school band a couple of months ago, mostly tuba for concert/marching and 'bone for one of the lesser jazz bands. I play a little bit of bass and guitar too, and do some recording.

Should I introduce myself too?

I'm Steven from Indonesia and I'm in Australia right now. I started composing properly in 2003. That's about it. Oh and I play the piano.

Hello, my name is Ascold. I'm 19. I study medicine in Moscow, and compose mainly for hobby. I started composing in 2002, and now record my compositions using computer. I don't have a special musical education, and all my musical knowledge I get from various books on music. I also play piano. I love music and this site, it is absolutely amazing!

I'm glad you found us, then! :D Best of luck in composition, and we all look forward to your contributions in music, review, and community.

Hi, My name's Alan. I am 13, and have been writing music for two years. I picked up the Clarinet as my first instrument when I was 8, and played that for a few years. Then I started playing the Piano, which is my favorite instrument by far, and have become an advanced intermediate student in three years! I also felt that I wanted to try a stringed instrument, so I study Violin as well. In addition, I take vocal lessons!

I didn't have any formal education in Composition until a few months ago, where I met my current teacher. Since then, I have decided that I want, more than anything, to be a composer, and nothing else (while I do realize that I probably will do more than just that to make a living, hence all the starving musician jokes!).

I'm glad to be here!

Alan

lol. You're very multi-talented. I hope you don't become too good for us too quickly.

I'll do my best! In fact, I don't think I'll ever get too good for this site!

Hello, my name is Julia Mae Staley. I am a sophomore at the Peabody conservatory of Music, as a Harp Performance major. I used to compose a lot and would like to get back into it.

I'm on here more though to help people with their questions about the harp, and compositions for the harp. I love new music whether it be neoclassical, atonal, minimalist, or some kind of graphic notation. Just keep it interesting (and playable) and I'm there!

Incidentally, YES the harp has pedals, and no, composers should not be afraid of them, but they do need to be more considerate in how they write for us!

Hope to get some attention from you up-and-coming composers! Keep writing well!

hi,my name's robert and i'm a 20 yr old student. i'm currently sutdying composition and music technology. i first started composing by playing in several bands (rock to eventually melodic metal), i'm just a sucker for vocal harmonies :) (i also love the dual-guitar riffs :D).

a few years back i started composing for small ensembles and (virtual) orchestras. i'm into writing music for film (among others).

oh, and i like anime :).

r.

Welcome, Noumenon1 and robertn! :D stick around and I promise you'll have a great time. Maybe in a few days you will have grasped the basics of our extremely complex and unique forum culture :P

sutdying

Sutdying rhymes with cat in heat-dying, which is what happens in La Traviata.

...

Technically, she's a courtesan.

To everybody: Ahem.... ignore Sapphire, he's had an overdose of himself...

To Noumenon1: We'd love to see some of your composition from the past posted.... anything for harp would surely intrigue us and inspire us, we don't get much of it here. In fact... I feel like writing something for harp as we speak... ahem! .... as I type... .... but what to write..... :w00t:

Welcome to all of you! Ascold, Chaski, and IHoldThePenHaHa, I've talked to you all before... nice place here, isn't it? :P :D

I've only been here a week or so but I thought Sapphire was a female. Maybe because of the name, but mostly because of the wonderfully scallopy style of "her" posts.

Hmmmm.

I just read that exchange, and it's absolutely hilarious.

Hi, I am Daniel, I'm 19, I am studying computers & electrotehnics but my real passion lies with music and composition. I'm into rock, classical and electronic music.

I also play the guitar in our non-existant soon-to-be band :).

Thats all .

Well, we're predominantly classically themed (genre, not period), but there is a fair amount of non-classical music about the site. Welcome.

Hi, I'm Simon,

I'm 24, been studying music since I was 9 or 10, started composing at the age of 16.

I'm also a classically trained saxophone player, I play other instruments as well, but not enough or even well enough to be of relevance.

2 years ago I had to give up composing, well... music in general because of health and family issues, but I'm now starting to try to get back into that world, and truthfully, I'm scared. Not of the music itself, but rather of not being able to do what I used to. anyways, its either that or wasting the rest of my life not doing any music.

at the moment, I'm working on a series of short pieces of varying styles to be able to update my portfolio and try to get a job maybe at a video game studio or something. Any stable job as a composer would be great, lol, and would give me an opportunity and reason to leave the small town I live in and go back to a larger city where music and art actually matters...

I also like to delve into the worlds of fiction writing and illustration.

hope I blend in, seems like a nice place.

Simon

Hello young composers of the world!

My name is Macar (on the internet) and I compose. I have been fascinated by composing and trying to free the music that plays in my head ever since I was a child.

I am a graudate student in music, but my degree is vocal performance (any other vocalists in the house?) As much as I love to compose, I've had a great deal of difficulty with the process in my life. Part of who I am is defined by my dyslexia. Because of this I have great difficulty playing piano, reading music, and thus I'm also a slouch when it comes to music theory (straight C's in undergrad theory). Because of my lack of abilites I convinced myself that I could not be any kind of composer.

However, I cannot stop the music. I came to realise that composing was part of who I am despite the barriers I face. I realized it didnt matter what anyone else thought about what I wrote- I needed to write it anyway. So, I found a place where I could write for an audience that could use my music and wouldn't judge me too harshly: Games. I've been collaborating with a amature game module called "Tamriel Rebuilt" for a couple years now and I've grown from constant practice.

But still, I have so much to learn. I've never had a real composition lesson in my life and I've only had one peice played by a real musician. I hope that here I can learn and grow further, and I also hope to interact with a lot of bright young musicians as well. I love all kinds of "classical music" from midieval to avant garde and I also have a passion for shocking world music. What I write is mostly for videogames- since I have an audience for it- but I do occasionaly wrtie purley for myself.

Looking forward to becoming an active member of the community:

Macar
