Hey!

I'm new to this board, and figured I'd say hi here. I joined for a reference on composition, and found that a lot of people here compose in a pretty tonal style. I take a lot of influence from 20th century composers like Bartok, Stravinsky, and Shostakovich, and so my works are a little less rooted that way. I'm hoping to learn some more stuff about composition, so...yeah. Hi!

hello i'm johovian... I like to make music and I'm here to learn...also i'm from virginia

Wow so am I lol..:):O:D

Hello...I would like to introduce myself too...

I'm a junior in high school. I have realized that I'd like to be a film scorer when I grow up...searching around collegeboard's website brought me here. I play a few instruments...mainly bass (electric and upright) and tuba, but I can also play some other stuff. I've been trying to compose for a while but haven't really gotten anywhere, so I'm hoping to learn more here.

Welcome to YC everyone. :)

Hi. I'm Chad from Dallas, Texas.

I'm studying music education at a local community college.

I began teaching myself piano when I was 5. I used to tell my brother that I "couldn't read the upside down notes". I began actually taking lessons at eight, and progressed quickly once I learned that the way you read the upside-down notes is the same as the right-side up ones. At 11 I took up clarinet, and I've been with it since.

I love all forms of music, but can't listen to modern "pop" music much because there just isn't a place for a clarinetist like me. I haven't done much composition, but I'm in the process of teaching myself, once again, and I thought this would be a good place to start.

Hello. My name is Aidan, I'm 16 and I'm from Sylvania, Ohio. I started taking interest in piano when I was around 6 years old but I never really got into it. I decided to teach myself mellophone my freshman year (I'm a junior) and that started my whole musical snowball, teaching myself a ton of instruments. Now, I'm 3rd chair symphonic band tuba and I'm playing bass guitar whenever else. Recently I've been getting into composition and I've got underway an 8 part suite for wind band with one movement *ALMOST* finished, and one separate tone poem again *ALMOST* finished.

My biggest composer influences are Gustav Holst, Nobuo Uematsu (of Final Fantasy), Junichi Matsuda (of Pokemon), and Brant Karrick.

Oh, and if you ever listen to anything I write, you'll notice that I write CRAZY tuba and horn parts. Crazy high, crazy fast, what ever makes it hard for you, you'll probably find it.

Odd enough, I don't come from a musical family whatsoever.

So hello.

that is most people's reaction. lol.

I thought i should get you guys used to my "flavor". lol. whatever that means... <_<

I like your flavor. :D

Hi, I'm Erik,

I play saxophone and clarinet in a very good amateur windorchestra and in a clarinetquartet in Nijmegen, that's a very old city in The Netherlands, founded by the Romans more than 2000 years ago.

Because I just became a daddy of a wonderfull young daughter, I'm doing a bit less music nowadays. But music is and has allways been on my mind.

My composing time was a long time ago, when I was a teenager. I made music for computer games on the MSX II (do you remember this kind of game computers?). I had plenty of time then, and I was always busy figuring out chords with note names. I had to programme it in Basic, a computerlanguage a bit like Quick Basic. Nowadays I try to find a way of composing that fits me, because I'm not so good with piano's. Maybe an electrical saxophone would do...? Would be a relief to find a way to get the music in my head on paper. I think in melodies, not in chords. Could be a handicap, but it could also be a new way of creating music.

I have Finale 2007 and I use midifiles from the internet to make arrangements for my clarinetquartet. Mostly Piazzolla, really a great heroic composer. But I'm very curious to you guys. I can't call myself a composer yet, but I'd love to try some of your compositions, if I may. And if it could work for clarinetquartet, I'll let you know if the audience liked it.

So see you around on the forum.

Or will I see my signature the first time in any post I make after I added it?

Testing........

You will want to check the box that says ''show your signature'' under the Additional Options field. You can also access it from the quick reply box below.

Welcome to :yc: :D

I play no instruments currently, but I plan on beginning to learn guitar within the next year. I am very interested in composing, which drove me to purchase a basic Yamaha electric piano about two years ago, which I have used little but which I have high hopes for.

What has motivated me to join this community is foresight, as I have interests here in lou of future business. I have an exceeding interest in webcomics and I hope to add a solid lineup of freelance and contractable composers to score various webcomics developed and produced through the cooperative productions group I am organizing, called Collaborn Visions.

The webcomics of Collaborn Visions will require pieces of all sorts, composed by all skill levels. No party interested in composing for CVs webcomics will be turned away, but, rather, will be fitted in where thought best suited.

I realize this is a tightknit community where business interests might not be very welcome, but likely communities of this nature are few and youngcomposers.com was referred to me by Jared Cowing, who has done some work for me.

I hope I am and can remain inoffensive while trying to conduct my business here and that the artists here can fullfill my needs.

Hello! I've been composing since I was about 12 or so, but I've only recently gotten into it a lot. I play viola decently well and the piano terribly. Next!

Hello,

I'm 19 years old and playing guitar for 6 years but also interested in with composing and orchestrating.

And yes I'm so bad introducing myself :)

Err... (O well, i hope my english is good enough to be understood...)

Hiya guys, i'm 15 years old (and will be 16 in this May) and i'm from Indonesia. I think i'm the clumsiest composer here, cuz... well... I've never played real instrument before. In fact, i can't read notes at all!! Er, at least i'm learning now.

*Sometimes i wonder why i can make a piece (If it can be called a 'piece') without knowing any notes and else...

O yea, and i would like to practice my english too, since we don't speak english here... So if i use wrong word or grammar, please correct it ;)

Sampai ketemu! (Indonesia: Catch you later!)

Oh my goodness, there and back again.

Literally.

I doubt any of you will remember me, but I joined once a few years ago (either '05 or '06, I don't honestly remember), posted once or twice, and promptly got carried off by the bothersome nature of life and never returned. However, every time that I would sit down at the computer, or the piano, or with one my various stringed instruments and start creating something or another, the fact that this place exists would dance through my mind. So, today, finding myself at last having a spot of time, I decided to give this place a go again.

And, having forgotten my old user information entirely, I just created a new account. Please don't slaughter me; said account was probably, for all I know, deleted due to inactivity. Ah, well, I only posted - as said - once or twice anyways. And never any music, only observations and the like.

So anyways, about me.

I'm eighteen years of age and fighting my way through my thirteenth year of school in Rock Hill, South Carolina, USA. Yes, thirteenth. No, I never failed, and I started on time. Go figure. I first discovered music about six or seven years ago, in Middle School choir, whence I absolutely drowned myself in the study of theory and learning of the piano. I never did take piano lessons (though I plan to begin this summer), relying solely on a bunch of books and my Music Theory training. Speaking of Music Theory, I took the International Baccalaureate Music course last year and passed the Written Exam with a 6 out of 7; the one point I missed out on came from my lack of historical references and such... I never did like history.

I'm always writing some kind of something musical, but I rarely ever finish something. I literally have over two hundred separate Finale files saved to my other computer, but out of all of them, I think 10 or 15 might be complete and worth something. I've just been so scattered; most of my complete works actually include themes and motifs from the multitudes of snippets lying around elsewhere. Most of what I complete is for the piano, or some sort of Strings group.

I probably should cut this short; few people will read the whole thing through. To close, a few random notes: I'm avidly learning the French Language (French V IB this semester, go me!), I'm crazy about G

Welcome.

You're gay, then?

Well, glad my metaphor wasn't too obvious.

Thanks very much for the welcome!

Welcome! I'm sure you'll find the pictures thread to your liking ;)

Welcome! I'm sure you'll find the pictures thread to your liking ;)

 Never misses a change to add such a remark.

Oh, LoL. As if I wouldn't have found it myself, anyways. :P

Thanks for the greetings, see you guys/gals around. *sort*

Oh...uh...alright then....HIIIIIIIIIIIIII! I'm Darlene, and I'm 15. So yeah, I've been playing piano since I was seven years old and I was always performing and doing recitals and stuff, unlike most of my friends, who took lessons then gave up a month later. I joined a couple piano competitions but I never won anything. Recently I played a lot of Chopin pieces and I guess my teacher was pushing me into the "performance" direction. So last summer, I decided to have a break from lessons and come back to her when school started. Well, guess what? It's March and I never did. I know, I know, I'm terrible. But the story's not done! I have called her because during my freshman year, I had composed a song for project and after people complimented it, that was when everything just opened itself to me. I wanted to compose! So I recently got some books on music theory and am slowly going back to the basics because I wanna be.....a FILM SCORER!!!!!!!!!!!! yup, that's my dream. And maybe a part-time psychologist, but that's another story. haha

So yeah, this forum looks extrememly helpful so I'll be coming here often when I'm in the "music" mood! :)

I'll second that notion.

WELCOME, to Happilyeverrandom!

Hey, guys. New guy here. Please be gentle. ;)

I'm a Canadian composer who's about to complete an undergraduate honours in Music, and am trying (hoping) to get into grad school. If not, I'm going to try to apply myself and get involved in some independent student films to help pay the bills (which is so much more fun than working in any other job).

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you. :)
