Hey all! ArsMusica9120 here.

Visited this place a few times before, and thought it was about time I registered here!

Vocalist for twelve years, trumpeter for ten, electronic composer for three.

Not really formally trained in composition... I just write what I like to listen to.

Hello, my name is Brian and I'm new to this forum. I'm in 44, but still just learning orchestral composition. I haven't yet tried a longer length composition (longer than about 8-9 minutes), but I'm working up to that. Coming from a rock and pop background of 3-5 minute songs, it's kinda hard to break that habit. :) The only formal training I have had is learning to play guitar. The rest is self-taught.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello without rambling too much. I'll post links to some of my work in later threads.

Thanks.

Hello, my name is Brian.

Hello Brian....

NICE!

Hi, everyone, the name's Vrixton (strange, I know :/ I'm one of like.... 5 people in the world that have it, and the only one I know personally) and, I've been composing in my HEAD for ages, but I only recently started writing it down.

I'm not terribly good, but what little I write I hardly understand how I got, so...

And contrary to my screen-name, i'm not very avant-garde at all, I once was... but I'm growing out of it, I think xD

Currently studying Japanese, I've gotten a taste for the "Asian" sounds in music, especially Ravel and Debussy. Russian composers also have a very special place in my heart (mostly the 3 S's: Scriabin, Stravinsky, and Shostakovich)

Hopefully, I can get some REAL insight into whether or not what I write is as bad as I think it is xD

Also, for some reason, I have a phobia of composing in front of other people O_O in fact, I'm getting my uncle's synthesizer for the very purpose of composing in private.

Hello, this is William speaking. I'm glad I found this forum, because it looks very helpful for my composing interests.

I first started composing because I needed a soundtrack for my Lego stop-motion animation. I had no previous instruction in composing, though I had studied (and still study) classical piano. Now, I'm planning on formally studying film score composition in the near future!

My main area of experience in music is classical piano. Though I'm not a proffessional quality pianist, I've worked long and hard to get to where I am now. I recently performed Liszt's La Campanella several times (my recording of this piece can be found at my website).

Though I enjoy music, I also enjoy using mathematics and logical skills. I guess it's easier to make money that way as well. . .

I hope to participate as much as I can at this site, though my busy schedule will probably restrict me somewhat.

Hi, my name's Stephanos. I've been "composing" songs in my head for some time, but only now have started to try and learn how to actually compose.

I hope to be around the forum a lot, as i'll probably only get help with composing here (I guess)

I'm starting piano lessons again after a few years gap, and i'm planning on going to music theory lessons as well...

I don't really like playing the piano in front of people, unless I can play the piece properly. And I really like Murray Gold's music.

I think that's all I have to say. =]

Hi Im ricky... a newbee in composing songs, I play the guitar. this might help me in improving my skill in songwriting..

Hey people.

Hope this place is interesting, will soon post some of my works.

Hi, I'm Qmwne235 (don't ask about the username). I've composed very little compared the the vast majority of others here, but my style is generally tonal and broadly in the romanticist tradition, but sometimes bordering on atonality and borrowing from early church music. I also like mainstream rock, metal, many types of jazz, and even some punk (as long as it has more than one chord, as some Ramones songs do), but I can't compose any of that.

Viola is my main instrument, but I can play violin fairly well, too. I've never had lessons (I don't want to pay for them), but I'm fairly decent nevertheless. I have absolutely no training in music theory; everything I know about it is based on experience, common sense, and my own research. This occasionally has disastrous results.

I have no plans on a career in any kind of music-related field. I'm more of a biology/chemistry/math-type of person. Maybe Alexander Borodin could be a good example for me to follow...

I've had ideas for compositions in my head since I was about 10, but only recently did I begin writing them down (I'm 15 right now). Some of them were quite elaborate, but most of them are forgotten. Hopefully, this forum will help encourage me to write them down.

Favorite composers: Ravel, Bartok, Hindemith, Schoenberg, Mahler, Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Debussy, and some other composers of that general time period.

Hi, My name is Justin Bush. I'm a 15 year old musically obsessed teenager. My main instruments are the french horn and trumpet. I can also play the piano, accordion, recorders, djembe, and various percussion. In my spare time I love to dabble at composing, though I'm not much good. I also love to practise conducting. My musical influences include the works of: Beethoven, Dvorak("New World Symphony"), Mozart, Mahler, Haydn, J.S. Bach, Tchaikovsky, Holst, John Williams, Howard Shore, James Newton Howard, James Horner and Hans Zimmer. I also love the music of KISS, The Beatles, Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Kenny G, George Gershwin and Frank Sinatra.

Heh... yes.

I assume you know something

Hi my name is Dave Graham, I'm 32 and live in London.

I've been composing since I was very little - and I'm starting to get better now.

I like pretty odd stuff, very old and very new - not so into the romantic kind of time period, but like ancient music, classical and 20th century weirdy stuff.

Fave composers I would probably say are Messiaen, Holst, Rautavaara, Takemitsu, Beethoven, Bartok....hmmm the list is pretty long actually!

Hi, my name is Steven, I'm 16, and I live in Georgetown (Canada). I've been plaing the piano for about 11 years and I also play guitar, trumpet, recorder (of course), alto sax, and I'm an okay singer. I've been arranging songs for about 3 years now, mostly for guitar and piano but also for other instruments, and now I'm just starting to write music of my own. Hope to post some stuff soon!:)

My name is Michael A. Garman (as is indicated by the username...) :) I am 20 years old and have been writing for 5 years. I used to write on Finale solely before I went to college, and at college I made a transition and now write almost exclusively by hand.

Which is good because my computer crashed, and I lost about 2 years worth of music I had written... over 150 pieces (I was very prolific in HS, because it was all crap :P)

I write from very experimental all the way to pretty tonal music. (To experience that variety, hit my website.) I am halfway through my undergrad looking to later get a M.M. in composition.

Hi. I'm an amateur composer from South Africa. I couldn't play an instrument to save my life and have, though I do enjoy writing things in midi using the computer. I'm afraid I'm probably way, way behind the rest of you in terms of technical knowledge, but that's why I was hoping you guys could give me a few tips.

As for my musical education, I have to admit I have next to nothing. I didn't take music as a subject in school (hadn't yet developed an interest in making music), and only began taking extracurricular lessons in my final year. I hope this isn't going to be a problem...

I hope this isn't going to be a problem...

It will

But as time passes you'll learn, if you commit to it ;)

Oh, I certainly intend to learn.

I just hope my lack of a proper musical education doesn't make me any less welcome here.
