July 12, 201015 yr This is a little theme I wrote this morning (12/07/10) about a mute (not able to speak) pianist, which reflects on his various struggles.Video of me (roughly) playing it Don't be harsh :-p Mute's Theme
July 12, 201015 yr I enjoyed this a lot. Seems to fit your description of what you wanted the piece to be well. Nice job!
July 13, 201015 yr It does convey the idea of the piano being used as a "word-substitute", I like that. It's as if he's talking through his fingers. I think the melancholy of the theme suits the title well, although it is a stereotype. But who doesn't imagine a mute in the typical "sulking-in-the-corner-because-my-vocal-chords-don't-work" pose? Very nice!
July 13, 201015 yr Author Thanks guys :-) Btw Berlioz, it's part of the film that he's like that (afaik), so I had to write it pretty sulky! I like your comment about 'word substitute'!
July 13, 201015 yr Word substitute.. perfect way to describe the piece!! I like it a lot. It's a tidbit to jazzy, but really, not much at all. I like the 7ths and 9ths... maybe that's the jazzy part, hmm? I could almost see it being played in the backround of a movie... and this is the spot where something, almost sad, had just happened. Hekla
July 16, 201015 yr I really like the more jazz-oriented harmony, it manages to convey a feeling of sadness without being imbued by the sad variety of the dreaded pop sound. It's a great background piece and should go well with the movie you're working on. I favorited as well :santa:
July 25, 201015 yr Author Thanks guys :-) I've used the theme here as the source material for the short film and composed a few cues using it, but which are really quite different. Still, I wanted to keep 'Mute's Theme' as a standalone piano piece. I might post the other cues when I get back from holiday.
July 30, 201015 yr Very pretty and delicate. I love music that conveys both sadness and hope, it gives a real emotive feel.
July 31, 201015 yr Author Very pretty and delicate. I love music that conveys both sadness and hope, it gives a real emotive feel. Thanks :-) Glad you picked up on those sentiments within the music (sorry, Igor..)
July 31, 201015 yr Usually it's a bad thing when people use block chords as the accompanying texture, but here it works well. The space in the piece has an emotional parallel to the silence of the mute's mouth. Nice tune as well, even if a couple moments are awkward, they make sense in terms of the program, making them forgivable.
October 30, 201015 yr I really enjoyed the harmonies in the chords, they fit very well with the melody you have presented. Your accompaniment in the left hand was done very well, many times people come up with a beautiful melody and don't know how to accompany it. Well done.
October 31, 201015 yr I liked it as much as everyone else, but is there a reason for it to have three flats when it is in F minor?
October 31, 201015 yr Author Thanks guys :) Glad you enjoyed the L.H. Lupin :) @Ian - it's sort of in F dorian - there are way more Ds than Dbs if you count. Thanks for listening you three, I appreciate it!
November 1, 201015 yr Thanks guys Glad you enjoyed the L.H. Lupin @Ian - it's sort of in F dorian - there are way more Ds than Dbs if you count. Thanks for listening you three, I appreciate it! Oh, okay. Just more evidence that the dorian mode is awesome.
November 10, 201015 yr I enjoyed this a lot. it's fit your description of what you wanted the piece to be well. Nice job! :phones: _______________________________________________ Budget Hotels In kanyakumari | Kanyakumari Budget Accommodation | Kanyakumari Tourism
January 4, 201115 yr Nice and beautiful. Both the idea and its implementation are applause worthy Bravo!
April 14, 201114 yr What a beautiful piece, Daniel! Thank you so much for sharing! Your music conveys a sense of despair and sorrow. I am deeply moved by your music. It is simple, yet powerful. Your piece has proven the adage: "less is more." Somehow your music reminds me of Yann Tiersen's. He is the composer of the renowned French film, "Amelie." Again, thanks for sharing! I enjoyed the piece very much!
April 15, 201114 yr Author Thanks :) Pleased at the comparison to Yann, since the music for Amelie is very pretty.
