November 1, 20169 yr Hi everyone, This is a piece that I was asked to write as a member of NMSW Young Composer's Academy. What do you lot think?
November 1, 20169 yr I think it sounds very nice and unique. A mixture with dark elements, an Imperial sound when the horn comes in, an almost Arabic sound with the violin, and a ballroom dance type of thing. Nice. Edited November 1, 20169 yr by LostSamurai
November 1, 20169 yr It's wonderful; perhaps the ending was maybe not as impactful as I would have expected, but it's motovic and builds on itself which is a rarity of good writing. Lovely.

November 1, 20169 yr This was a nice listen. I'm glad you haven't been discouraged for the datedness of the idiom (it does sound like it could have been written as early as the 1910s; also, the obvious reference to Liszt's Mephisto Waltz at the beginning), but I wonder if that will be the case if you do go off to a conservatoire.
November 17, 20169 yr Nicely done. Good theme and development, a very entertaining and fun piece overall. Reminds me of Still's Afro-American Symphony. One quick criticism. It seems you wanted to maintain that same rhythm in the piano however I feel perhaps that rhythm could have been passed to the other instruments (or even add percussion) and then give the piano some more interesting moments, as the piano part is pretty dull.
