What Instrument Do You Wish You Could Play?

@Aleximo: I'm trying to re-teach my self the piano after half (well three quarters;)) giving it up ages ago. I wasn't sure whether teaching myself was a good idea though. Can anyone else confirm what Aleximo said, about it being good to teach yourself? I would love piano lessons but can't afford them at the moment:(

Violin is hard, but it's worth the effort.

Violin, most definately. I literally drive people out from wherever I play violin. Hope to get past the learning curve... for my sake and the people around me.

Incedentally I'm on my third set of strings, broke the other two though I'm trying to figure out whether it was waay too much tension, my playing, or it might be my cheap violin or any combination of the three :)

Once I learn I definately want to have my second violin repaired. It was made in 1890 and sounds much richer than my practice one. But it has a chip in the purfing near the tailpiece, so it makes a slight buzzing sound.

I would like to learn the clarinet, or perhaps the valve horn (it isn't French! :))....the former is supposedly easier, though, and I like the clarinet better (in some instances, at least) so if I ever get the chance, I'm picking up a clarinet :P.

My brother plays the cello, so I can screw around with that any time I want :)...

Like Jean Baptiste Lully practically nailed his foot to the floor :P

False.

Jean Baptiste Lully was a Baroque cellist - therefore, he would not have held the cello against his shoulder with an endpin resting on the floor. Rather, the cello would not touch the floor at all, rather being held between the cellist's knees. No endpin on baroque cellos.

I've just started to learn Piano, and and the to learn list I have jazz guitar (completely different to classical guitar so I'll call it a different instrument) and tenor recorder.

A lot of instruments (how many lifetimes are there available?)!

Definitely: Viola, bassoon, tenor recorder (most definitely!), english horn, mandolin.

Maybe/sometimes: harp, contrabassoon, trombone, oud & tampouras (greek traditional instrument), shakuhachi.

Put me in for Guitar...And play it well...Oh and if I could play the whole brass and woodwind sections especially french horn and oboe, then combining that with my brothers and mine already learned strings and having all those intruments available to me along with a good mic recorder and studio I wouldn't need my synth orchestra, with the exeption of throwing in a few other world sounds...(;

Sorry, I kinda left the topic somewhere in there...

YES. YES YOU DO. Viola is beautiful <3<3

I want to play cello ;____; But I don't have time or money or space...! And mum would freak if there was another stringed instrument in the house (both me and my brother play violin, I play viola, and we both have a guitar - not that we can play well >_>)

The viola is indeed a gorgeous instrument. But very-very-very underrated, unfortunately. In the community orchestra, there are no students playing the viola. Can you believe it? :P

Cello is, of course, my #1. And it is a lot easier to produce a good tone with the violoncello than with the violin/viola. Thus, it would be a good investment for your mum (thankfully-I live alone and away from neighbors.Nobody has to listen to my cello's constant meowing). :w00t: You wouldn't have to change your avatar, as well (you can just pretend it's the tenor clef)! :P

Oh boy, there's ALOT of instruments I wish I could play. And I would really take my time to learn many instruments if I had the money. But I don't so that is pretty lame. I've been thinking of taking up a reed instrument though, like oboe or clarinet. I just need to save up some money for it ._.

I want more opportunity to practice viola; I can read the clef, I just sometimes get confused and switch either to treble or bass. Also, I want to learn a wind instrument.

Arellys, is there any way you can get a hold of a school cello, or something of the like? At my school we have a secondary instrument class where I've been learning cello, and it has been very good for me as a violinist to have the different perspective, different methods of shifting and whatnot - I would highly recommend for cellists and bassists to practice viola or violin, and violinists and violists to practice cello or bass. Just having that new perspective is invaluable, and can help you rediscover that string instruments are practically infinite in their capacity for expression. So often we learn the limits of our own instrument, which is very limiting. Exploring a similar medium is hugely helpful. Plus, you make more money that way; I played a gig over my winter break that I would have been left out of if I didn't play cello. Always a plus.

Hmmm...

Guitar - just got electric guitar strings for my acoustic tonight, its so much better. I have a really crappy acoustic with terrible action, the tension on the electric strings is a lot less, makes it much easier to play. Not quite ready to start learning it though.

Cello - got to have one first, but I really like it.

Chapman stick - again... I don't have one, but it'll be great.

Organ- I just need me some foot pedals!

Timpani - I want some.

Sitar - I want one!
