When I'm at work, my mp3 player plays classical music (ca. 1850 or younger), jazz (big band) music, and sometimes pop music from the late 70's-90's. When I'm driving, my mp3 player plays musical theatre soundtracks (well, duh, after doing so many shows, they grow on you). When I'm at home and not working on composing, my mp3 player plays vocal jazz music (Manhattan Transfer, the Real Group, etc.) and Ultra Lounge. When I'm composing, silence. I like the B-52's and Barenaked Ladies. (among others) Favorite composers: Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, John Williams, Ferde Grofe, George Gershwin, Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, Richard Strauss. They are not very well known but they consist of some of the best musicians I have ever heard from LA. Check them out. You can find some videos on youtube as well. In fact, I've even started to consciously avoid it. When I want to relax, I just tune in to some jazz (:cool:) or put on a brief classical piece. I hate the term ''classical music'', by the way. Which brings me to... ... What the f*ck does the OP (Nigel) mean by ''non-classical''? I just realized I have no idea. :D Is Steve Reich ''non-classical''? If so, I list him.
