Here’s an instrumental lullaby I wrote on my real ukulele but I used a virtual instrument ukulele for the recording. After plopping all the uke notes into the Sonar 8.5 piano roll I then added an arrangement one note at a time. It’s kind of tedious but I enjoy making music that way. It’s finger picking rather than the standard uke strum so transferring the individual notes into the piano roll was pretty straight forward. Hope you enjoy. Just (at least hoped to be) another fugue I began working on last Saturday, and which I'm quite surprised that I could finish today, main reason why I'm posting it here right now. Perhaps might be deemed as a bit too repetitive, ostensiblty regarding the fact it isn't even 2 minutes long, but I'm a lot happier with it than any of my previous works. So, without further ado, here it is:

@Noah Brode I kinda like that idea too. If y'all add that as part of the criteria, I'd think it was really fitting. Obviously none of us (probably) have actual fear regarding composition, but we all favor certain styles and boundaries. I'm certainly very pop-oriented and don't dabble outside of traditional tonality. I'm very happy in my bubble but it's also fun to pop bubbles.

This is one of my longer works; just finished it today, so yay! I could really used some feedback for future versions, though. The formatting is also a little suspect, as are the harmonies, perhaps. I was going for an Impressionistic style. It is inspired by the journey of the Christian faith.

Gorgeous harmonies that go to unexpected places. I love the dissonance in the low-mid strings at 1:29 and again at 1:40! One small critique is that I wish there were fewer voices playing the third of the final chord. It sounds a bit off balance to me.

Given that I've never regarded the arts as sport with winners and losers - competition is a way to participation. It also helps people face the real world where rejection falls upon them from time to time. The composer in me also supports the fear category but I have no fears of composing except drying up when there's a deadline to meet!

Maybe a way that we could make it interesting is to add in a suggestion in the 'fears' category that people should try to incorporate compositional techniques that they're 'afraid' of when writing about their fears. That might push people outside their comfort zones

It's no surprise, I'm sure, that I prefer the fear prompt. It's just easier. I don't dislike the idea of pitch classes but I didn't vote for it because it's completely new to me. I'd have some learnin' to do before I could even start writing. Frankly, I'd still be willing to participate despite the ruinous end result. But the dice fall where the dice fall, and I think people are always going to prefer a competition where you can choose your poison a bit more freely.

This is a piece I recently submitted to a youth symphony orchestra competition. It is supposed to be geared towards a grade 3 level. Let me know if you would make any revisions or changes!
