  1. See my latest post for what Symphonic Choir sounds like. For oohs and aahs and such it's better than most. But it knows 100k English words that you can type in for it to sing. It also has a phonetic mode. Since every part of the word is a sample you can adjust the length of every syllable and consonant as well as it's volume. That sounds great until you discover the devil in the details. You have to tweak everything! It's tedious as hell! I wanted to put it to its paces with a Handel aria but it was torture. So, most people use it for the oohs and aahs. I think they are worth the $300. If you are the self sufficient type, you won't need customer service. If not, don't depend on it. They will not hold your hand.

  2. I recently got the East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Choir vst, and I really liked it. It has some annoying limitations, of course (it's an old version), but now I do have more will to compose vocal music (I'm working on something right now). At least for me, ESQL Symphonic Choir is a very good resource, no doubt!

  3. Twitter integration would be interesting... An official youtube page would also help the site grow. It could feature videos of YC's best pieces...

  4. To drive traffic to this site could you use Twitter and do an automated link every time someone posts a new composition?

  5. I get that kind of feeling regularly but I find if I just keep trying new things and honing the skills I am weak at I can overcome it and gain satisfaction again. If you are unhappy with what you previously felt to be good it means that your perception has changed and is a sign of improvement. Even though you don't feel happy you are in the stage that allows for the next level of growth as a musician and if you stick to the grindstone you WILL be able to improve. I think the idea that art is just self-expression and exploring your emotions is completely wrong, art is the field that requires constant dissatisfaction and humiliation to achieve any kind of greatness.

  6. I can't think of anyone on this site who uses that off the top of my head, since most folks seem to avoid vocal works like the plague. (Mainly because the sound options in Finale and Sibelius don't give you a good sense of what you're writing, from what I can tell.) If no one can give you an answer here, try the forums on CPDL (choralwiki.org). I know at least one of the site admins there uses this type of program, although I'm not sure if it's that particular one or not. He runs the choralia.net site when he's not doing CPDL. The forums on CPDL are pretty dead, but the admins are very active and very helpful, so if you throw a post out, you should get an answer. (:

  7. *** The midi recording is posted on the website, in the music section of my profile. *** Fine. What's the name of the piece. I'm beginning to think you're a troll too.

  8. I doubt anybody will get a live performance unless (s)he owns the orchestra. I know if I compete I cannot get an orchestra to record it unless I pay. A lot.

  9. I especially like viewing the (full) site on mobile devices: the edges of my screen tend to have lives of their own, which isn't at all irritating.

  10. This might be on the very far end of what you might be looking for but they have very very thorough papers on pieces, or concepts of pieces here. http://www.mtosmt.org You might have to do a lot of digging to find just an analysis because this is a Music Theory Peer-Review online Journal and simple analysis are a little lacking for this site.
