i think overall it's a nice piece. Like Monarcheon sayd, i think you could do some "cleaning up". Sometimes there are small things that make a very big difference. Otherwise, i think you could use some EQ and see the Levels of each instrument. A more balanced mixed would help bring out the best things in the song. Nice, i liked it, looking forward to listen to some more... ;)

i liked some of the ideas that you show us in this piece, but when i thought the music was just started it was over. As a little piece it is fine, but i think you have some nice material to develop and make something a bit bigger. I would made take a look at the voicings. like the others sayd, sometimes the are "confusing", and mixed. But it's nice. sounds good and i'm sure it would be fun to play. Just feels like it needs some more developing. :)

Last year i wrote "Pleiades" for the Portuguese Guitar and Mandolin Orchestra. It was a challange, but it was also lots of fun! My inspiration was the mithological story of the Pleiades, the 7 daughters of Atlas. I didn't try to write program music about their story, rather i wrote the music about the feelings and emotions i feel when i read the story of the Pleiades. It was premiered by the Portuguese Guitar and Mandolin Orchestra in Portugal in 2015 and it has been on their repertoire ever since. They also recorded it on their CD last year. "Pleiades" is composed in a kind of experimental form, with ideas and developments coming one after another, without great regard for tradicional musical forms. I experimented a bit with textures and instrumentations because i wasn't really sure how a plectra orchestra would sound, so i thought it would be fun to put the melodies and motivs in different instruments. Since the piece was premiered the orchestra has had only one Contrabass, so actually the bass part is sometimes hard to hear or feel, and some parts now don't work anymore like i inicially intended. But overall i am happy with the result and it has been well received both by the musicians in the orchestra and by the public. Hi. Some time ago i found about about live looping and immediately i thought "i have to try it!". For the people who never heard about it, according to Wikipedia, Live Looping "is the recording and playback of a piece of music in real-time [1] using either dedicated hardware devices, called loopers or phrase samplers, or software running on a computer with an audio interface". What does that mean? It basically means that even alone you can play multi-instrument (multi-part) songs, for instance recording (live) the bass line, than recording the some piano harmony and then on top of that start singing. When you finish recording a part it starts playing, so you can create "layers" of musical parts that go together. It lot's of fun!! =) Well, i gave it a try and i loved it. So i even made a little video of me live looping Django Reinhardt's song "Les yeux noirs". Here it is: http://youtu.be/iJKfbpsFyig In the video i make the following loops: - organ harmony - e-upright bass - 2 single not guitar "melodies" - manouche rhythm guitar and then i play the theme of the song and i improvise a little bit =) I would love to know what you think about it. ...and if you like it, you can maybe click the "thumbs up button" for the video! This is a great question... from all the musicians i know, i can surely say that 99.9% cannot live from composing (actually i don't know any!!). Yes, they can live as musicians and as music teachers, but the money they get from composing is very little. How can live as a composer nowadays? The people composing for Hollywood films? Still, I would tell you that in my opinion it's never too late to set our mind in one goal and follow it with all our energies. Studying music, learning to play an instrument and playing music (alone or in ensembles) brings us much more rewards than we can see. GO FOR IT!!! =)

Hi Thanks for your comment... i was just trying to upload you the score but it doesn't seem to work. I think there is some kind of problem with the uploading when we are using Safari. I had already big trouble while trying to upload the .mp3 file (in the end "Chopin" had to upload it for me). So, i will keep trying and see if i can do it... I will also try to upload the first movement one of these days! What kind of things do you mean they did/didn't that you would wince at? One of my big struggles when it comes to work with musicians is that i don't write much information on the scores. Not so much dynamics,..., so it is probable that is was my fault! ;)

Hey anyone interested in playing and recording one or two of my pieces for piano solo? The main objective of this recording is to "archive" and to put it on my MySpace page and, very possibly, to send it along with the music sheet to some composition contests (that demand audio recording of the piece). I cannot do it because i do not play piano that well, but i would be glad if someone wanted to give me a hand with this... I think they are not really complicated pieces. The one that i am most interested in having recorded, started as a composition study about cromatism and hamony by 2nd intervals. It is a "Prelude and Fugue" and i think it is a cool piece to play The other piece, called "Rainy Landscape" was a exercice about Layerism and minimalistic mitifs (eventhough it is not a minimalistic piece).
