April 13, 200817 yr I hate progress and change. Why can't we just chisel our messages in stone and stuff them into the internet? JK Sounds great to me. Ron
April 14, 200817 yr If it was eye candy you were expecting, then keep in mind what I said about these being prototypes. ;) The team hasn't designed anything yet, they've just planned out how the application will work. And in order to do that, they needed to state their intentions through various mock-ups. The delivered product will hopefully be quite an exciting thing.
April 14, 200817 yr Oh right (sorry, I hadn't read all of your post, I just clicked on the links :P ). Well, then, I can't wait to see what comes next :)
April 20, 200817 yr So is there a set date for the Big Change? I love changes... i listen to 2pac all the time! I'm kidding. Anything concrete date-wise already?
April 20, 200817 yr No concrete date set, no. It's impossible to do that when dealing with things of this nature. All I can tell you with any reasonable degree of certainty is that the system should be up and running some time during the summer (i.e. between May and September).
September 16, 200817 yr Author Has the new system been set up yet? If so I can't find the features. No it hasn't been set up yet. Trust us, you will not miss it. Unfortunately, I do not have an estimated date of completion, however I messaged my developer today asking when he thinks he will be finished. The reason why I asked him is because I want to get us on a dedicated server about 1-2 months before launch. We will keep you updated as to when these changes will come through.
September 16, 200817 yr Author Just got word that the full beta release of the network will be due mid to late October. My developer gave me a date of October 27. Keep in mind this date is for the beta release, so Mike and I will be testing it out to make sure everything is working the way we envisioned it to work. But things seem to be moving along.
September 16, 200817 yr Would this Beta completely replace the current YC or would it be like what Facebook is doing... (have the new and the old available at the same time until the new one is debugged and assured to be working properly) ?
September 16, 200817 yr Author It won't replace the forum or the wiki, it will integrate with the forum. Facebook replaced its old style with new. Young Composers is adding functionality, something that never existed before, so there is no such thing as changing back to the old style. The forum will be the same, the only difference is that your profile will be linked to the network, and we are currently looking into a site design change. This means, the forum may look different, but the functionality will still be the same. With your current login, you will have the features of the network, which will be on its own subdomain, such as network.youngcomposers.com
January 4, 200917 yr Something happening here? Yes... stay tuned. I expect Mike/Chopin will have an update in the coming weeks. ;)
January 4, 200917 yr OMG - I can wait to for this. Spill a date guys because those mock ups look brilliant!
April 22, 200916 yr OOooh... since you have a new and hopefully talented developer... Is there anyway you can bring back the notepad on the user CP? Like the one IPB has?
April 22, 200916 yr That was written for version 3.5.4 - we are on 3.6. I would install and test it locally but my local copy of the forum isn't functioning at the moment for some reason...maybe later. Why do you need a notepad anyway? What's wrong with storing text on your own machine, or if you need to access it from multiple locations, Dropbox or similar?
August 19, 200916 yr Author It's hard finding good workers, but I have not given up. We are 80% finished, and I just hired another developer (after going through 3) to help me finalize this project. This was actually his first week of work, and I am paying him by the hour in order to speed up this process. We should go live before the end of the year.
August 28, 200916 yr A lesser man would have given up years ago.It has not been often that I have been impressed with Porcaro, but I'll never say that he didn't put his heart and soul into this place. This is golden. Amazing work, sir Porcaro, and keep choppin'!
August 29, 200916 yr To me, YC is one amazing website. And yes... redesigning the website would be great. Perhaps to be faster to download. Sometimes... I get pissed off my all the layout. It's so... large. Bad! And the colour... too much! Why not let one customize the colour? :) Attached, an image demonstrating the wasted space. Not good! YC could be simplyfied and STILL be a great site!

Where every member has a own page with a music and video player etc. Your wasted space pic makes little to no sense.
August 29, 200916 yr Author Have downloads or pageviews of this site been slow? Anyway, thanks for the encouragement. On that note, I would like to say the most difficult part of this project, (the custom search, which has been nothing but a nightmare to communicate the specs) was finalized and completed this morning successfully. If the developers were able to accomplish this difficult part of the project without a hitch, this leaves me in good confidence that they have what it takes to finish the rest of this project exactly the way it was envisioned before the year is up.
