Helloooo there. I'm Azura, as I'm assuming you can see :P

Currently I'm still stuck in high school and I'm a clarinetist in the band. I'm second chair (as a sophomore) out of twenty. I've been playing clarinet since sixth grade (it'll be my fifth year playing in August) and recorder even longer than that (since fourth or fifth grade I think.). I'd like to learn flute and oboe as well.

I've been starting to write a little bit of music recently, and I'm hoping to possibly take a music theory or composition class later on, probably as a junior because right now I'm not really all that good.

I enjoy playing difficult music (when I know how to play it). If I see a piece that's four pages long with barely any rests my jaw will be bruised from falling onto the floor. But I'll still learn to play it and play it well :)

I think that's about it.

Good day! My name is David, music theorist, arranger, composer. I thought I would join as the forum looks quite interesting and may just post some music.

Hi, i'm new here. My name is Jeff and I'm a university graduate who is still trying to figure out composing after all these years...

Hello!

My name is Edward Gon

Hi, I'm Gary and I've been composing music for over thirty-five years. For the last twenty-five I've been a working Hollywood composer. I've also had a complete conservatory training where I studied composition with Pulitzer prize winning composer Karel Husa. I look forward to all the discussions.

Welcome, Gary and all the rest — good to see you here! :)

Welcome to the boards Gary. It's good to see a few more knowledgeable, experienced composers joining our ranks. :)

M'names David Kincaid. I'll be attending Stetson University on a full music composition and piano scholarship and...yeah. I love classical music and I live in Florida. I'll post things soon.

Thanks. Glad to be on board.

Welcome fellow Floridian :)

Sweeeeet what stuff did you score?

Sweeeeet what stuff did you score?

I've scored several TV series, a couple of short Imax films, a ton of theme parks (Universal Studios, etc) and assorted miscellaneous stuff. You can check out my music at http://garyguttman.com/

Welcome Gary and David to YC. I'll be checking both of your stuff out.

Gary - did New Music Box do an interview with you about a year ago? Your name sounds familiar but I am unsure as they interview focused on a composer of Broadway musicals.

Also good you are coming here as this site will offer many ideas for your Secret Composer site on what beginners require when starting off on their own. I am always impressed by some of the works by mostly self-taught composers. Passion, discipline and curiousity can carry one very far!

Gary,

I don't mean to hijack the introduction thread, but which TV series have you scored for?

Welcome, hope you stick around! I know a member named Mathieu is a serious bassoonist, and I'm learning right now. Bassoon's fun!

That wasn't me in the New Music Box interview. I'm not sure who that might have been.

And I agree, I'm very curious to hear more about what beginner composers are most interested in learning.

Gary,

Probably the only TV work worth mentioning was for a series called Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future. It was a futuristic/military Star Wars type show. The series premiered in the same season that Star Trek: The Next Generation premiered their TV series. So Captain Power didn't stand a chance.

Hello - I've been aware of the site for some time, but just got around to registering. I'm 31 (from the UK) and I've been messing about with music for quite a long time without getting too far. As a teenager I used to fiddle about with old-fashioned trackers on the Amiga, mostly re-arranging existing work. I only got into composing my own things with the advent of more powerful music production software like Reason, Cubase and more recently Logic Pro.

I'm not a particularly good instrumentalist (but then neither was Berlioz apparently) but I've always wanted to learn to compose properly. Up to now I've relied on the instant feedback of the computer when entering notes, but this makes things a little slow and frustrating, so I'd like to get further with ear training.

At this stage I'm trying to do things more systematically, but it's tricky to get the time to even think of planning things when work is busy and you have two little children!

I've fancied being a game music composer or film/tv composer, but at the moment I'd be happy to just be able to realise some of my musical ideas, and get involved in a music-making community. A bit of detailed feedback from experienced composers on what I'm doing would really help!

Hi there,

I am Jami, an Irish composer - the other side of 20, 31 :P I also play piano. Used to play cello and flute. I would love to meet some musicians here and other composers who might have some questions or ideas to discuss.

bye for now

Hey everyone!

I've been browsing the forums here on and off for the past couple months, and figured it was time to join...

I've been playing and composing (for piano) baroque/classical music since I was 13 (25 now) and it's been the one hobby of mine that I've stuck with...

I was a music major for 2.5 years in college and miss it and all the discussions/critiques that came with it...

ciao for now.

- Victor

Hi all,

I am Dexter, 19 years old, I'm Dutch but I currently live in France. I'm a drummer and percussionist. I also have some (limited) skills on the piano.

Due to performing oppertunities I have neglected my composing a little bit (apart from pastiche for A2 music), but once my A2 exams are over (one more week to go) I'm definitely going to get back in to it.

That's about it I suppose (:

:O They are coming in to fast! NOOOOOO *big explosion and the entire kazooo*

Anyway, welcome to the forums. Watch out for the member called Romanticist, he is scary

Hey, I absolutely love the violin and anything about it. I am currently learning how to play and enjoying every minute. I grew up playing the piano but at the same time never found anything that touched me like Vivaldi.

My name is Elizabeth and I've been "formally" composing for about a year now....but I've been messing around on my piano my entire life.
