wow. that's amazing. I didn't know I could get a hernia laughing, but that did it for me. that's.... that brings tears to my eyes.

welcome all!

Hi, my name is Aaron. I'm 16 years old and a sophmore in high school. I've recently become interested in composing but I am in desperate need of help with it because I have no idea what I'm doing. I play piano and have played now for about as long as I can remember. I look forward to getting to know people here as well as expanding my abilities. Thank you.

Hi,

my name is Sebastian, I'm 23 and I study musicology and history in Frankfurt, Germany.

I play Drums for about 13 years, which is my main instrument, but from time to time i also play electric guitar and Piano (awfully bad ^^). Right now, I'm willing to learn to play accordeon, but my instrument, which i found in an old cellar in my parents house, is still in repair ^^. I'm no virtuoso, but I like to explore the principles of music, the technique behind composition. I'm into a lot of music [including Thrash/Death Metal, Jazz, Folk & Klezmer], but when it comes to composing I'm mainly drawn towards romanticism (Mahler) and baroque (Bach).

Yeah, that's 'bout it. I hope i learn a lot here, cause i need to XD

Greetings,

Furex

Furex = Durex + Fur?

Furry condoms?

Oh yeah!

*g* Sorry, to disappoint you, but the Name has actually nothing to do with condoms ;) It derives from an very early internet project I made. That time my english wasn't that strong and I named it "Future Exit". It was basically an world description for a free pen&paper RPG I wanted to write. It's all gone now for many years, but I still kept the essence of the name (future exit -> furex). Yeah, I know, boring story ;) Perhaps I should stick to the condom story ^^' errhhh... or better not.

Greetings,

Furex

Aah..

Welcome anyway!

Hi everyone,

well, I see there are a lot of very talented folks here. Technically speaking, I'm not young anymore, not even remotely. But Ii have been composing really seriously for under 2 years, so I suppose in that sense I am still young. :-)

Now i read the rules and guidelines, and there were lots - i can't remember if I can tell you my home page?? Anyway, apologies in advance if this is not permitted: I'm on soundclick as "kepeaceusa". There are about 46 pieces up there at present. I work with Finale and Garritan Personal Orchestra primarily. I look forward to listening here.

My best to you all,

Karen

hi im claudio

Hi Claudio! Welcome to YC. I moved your question here. You'll get more replies there, and a fiery debate will most likely ensue.... Besides, it is an interesting idea for a thread.

*runs very, very fast to get away from fiery debate*

Good call Anders ;)

Welcome to all those who've recently joined, may your stay be long, happy and informative :D

Hello My name is "Nyu001" (Real name: Steven) I am 18 years old in college taking a graphic design bachelor. I play piano from a long time ago and violin beginner also I like to compose music.

*Ends Introduction*

Hey, everybody! My name is Yingyu.

I'm 18 and I play the keyboard and I sing. I love music ever since I could remember! My first memory of creating music was when I was 5 years old, and was playing with a musical keyboard (toy) making my own tune.

My family never had the money for music lessons, so I was never given any...But I took all that I could from the music classes offered at school and enhanced my knowledge there. Even though I learned how to read and write music, it often makes me feel as if it's a way of restricting music and one also grow too dependent on the music sheet. When I do perform, I never use any piece of written music, which makes me feel more confident and definitely more "free". The truth is, I do not memorize the keys, but the notes come naturally to me because I've played it so many times from the heart.

Now in college, music is actually not my major because I greatly believe that the gift to create music should not be used to compete but for the simple joy that brings smiles to the faces of its audiences. I create music because it's something that I just need to do, but if it was my major, competition and conflicts come in---concerning who's the best and whatnot. When this happens, where is the magic of my music?

For now, this wil have to do. There's some music playing in my head and wants to be released---gotta go!

Greetings, O travellers who have o so misfortunately wandered astray to the delights culture of YC!

Welcome Nyu001, Yingyu, claudio, KE Peace, Musicmaker14!

Hi everyone, I'm oingo86! My name comes from the fact that Oingo Boingo is the greatest band in the world, and I was born in 1986. I'm a composer/all-around musician and I live in the USA, but I have many desires to pack up and move to Canada to escape the ridiculous amount of corruption and injustice we have in our society. Also, because I can't stand warm temperatures!

Oingo, amen to that! And welcome! Canada sounds like such a nice place to me sometimes. And I hate summers here....

Screw that: Portugal's better.

Hi!

I'm 17 and I'm from Hungary. I'm mainly a violinist who is also composing, but mainly for hobby, and learned composing only in autodidacte way. I can be also found at SibeliusMusic with the same name. They are the msot importatn things, I think.

Welcome to YC!

Hello, my name is Chris. I've never ever really composed before in my whole life, nor have I had any musical education. I've played guitar for about 8 years, and just learned how to play bass guitar recently. I also learned how to play keyboard for a bit but I don't have one any more (I'm actually looking into buying one ASAP).

I am AMAZED at composing, absolutely amazed, and that's why I want to learn about it and do it for myself.

Looking forward to learning an absolute shitload from this forum,

Chris.

:)

Welcome, Chris!

If you're looking to learn basic music theory, this is an excellent online resource: Dolmetsch Online - Music Theory Introduction

Also, for instrumentation and orchestration, try this: Principles of Orchestration On-line - northernsounds.com

There's also an incomplete series of lessons on this forums on orchestration.
