Woodwind Duet in F-sharp minor

Featured Replies

Good evening!

Here is a short woodwind duet in sonata form I wrote a few years ago with a new video on YouTube, hope you like it!

Pretty nice. I would maybe reconsider the role of the clarinet and some of the lost momentum that occurs throughout the piece. The clarinet seems very melodic, but not very flowy which is not bad in contrast to the bassoon, but in times like the return of the A it opens up some opportunities to match the nice counterpoint you already have instead of sounding empty. Points where the piece lose energy are nice when it's like the augmented sixth chord before V, but harsher just before the return of A. The potential for this to be a continuous string is high.
Also, the beaming on your parts in 6/8 is incredibly strange sometimes.

Nice.  Your beaming needs to be fixed ASAP.   Also, the score needs to be fixed; the Clarinet would be in C if it's an "A" Clarinet

I think I know why the clarinet and bassoon have the same key signature. @DanJTitchener Did you have concert pitch turned on when you exported the PDF? At least in Musescore, if I have concert pitch turned on when exporting a PDF, I will get the same key signature in both instruments that are in C and transposing instruments.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to go through this, really appreciate it.

Absolutely agree with the concert pitch comments: if this was to be performed it'd need to be fixed, however I personally find it easier to read and write music this way (as a pianist!)

But what's the issue with the beaming?

Which score are you referring to, the notes displayed in the video or the pdf? The video is just showing midi notes as generated by Synthesia, which I can't control. Is the beaming in the attached pdf better?

Thanks for getting back to me! I didn't know what I had done wrong! Ha

I WON'T be using that Synthesia visual in future!
