"Thank you for organizing this year's Christmas event! These events are a great way for us to learn how to compose for a specific emotion or holiday!"

It's time for the annual Young Composers Christmas Music Event!

The Brief

Same as ever year - write anything inspired by a winter celebration (e.g. Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa) or just Winter in general (or Summer for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere).

If you want to participate, pop a comment below! You could have a look at last year's competition for inspiration if you like:

As usual there are no prizes and everyone's a winner. You will however, be rewarded with a beautiful badge designed by our very own @PeterthePapercomPoser.

Submissions are open now (8th December). Submissions will be included in this thread. There is no deadline, though preferably your piece should be done before Christmas or at least before the end of December.

What are you waiting for? Get composing!

I think I'm going to participate! Would a sax quartet tounge-in-cheek version of Sleigh Ride be acceptable? Thank you!

You should see the garbage Christmas music I've submitted lol. Anything you want is fine, this is lighthearted and fun.

I've begun reharmonizing and doing a choral setting of a famous Polish Christmas Carol (although it's only famous in Poland of course).  Count me in!

"Who says we always have to use standard harmony for Christmas? Love your beautiful and harmonically interesting variations of this Polish Christmas carol!"

Here's my entry to the event!  Merry Christmas to all!  Ho ho ho!

I am in 🙂

"Very emotional, and somber piece. But I love it. This is a reminder that people celebrate Christmas in different ways."

Hi, this is my contribution. Happy Christmas!

Ill be participating again this year.

"What a beautiful original composition, perfect for the Christmas spirit. Aside from peace, I also felt a little sadness, love and hope in this composition. Music that can evoke emotion is a huge winner in my book."

Hello everyone,

I wrote a Christmas piece for violin and piano with a pop-style song structure (intro, verse, chorus, bridge, verse, chorus, coda), although there are no lyrics (really bad with writing lyrics, sorry!!^^).  This is one of my first times writing music in pop form.  Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!!🎄

Apart from posting under this thread, you can also post your piece seperately as another post!

"What a beautiful and cinematic approach to the Christmas holiday. Clearly, Christmas met Hollywood this year!"

Is it too late to make a submission? 😅

No!  Technically, the event is open until New Year's Day!  So you can still make a submission and receive a participant badge before then.

"This is very expressive! You brought an ancient carol to life with your beautiful SATB harmony, and I really felt at peace listening to all 4 movements."

Hello! Here's my entry for this year.

Chopin: "What a beautiful and cinematic approach to the Christmas holiday. Clearly, Christmas met Hollywood this year!"

@chopin I appreciate the compliment! 🙂 Glad I could contribute to the wonderful pieces that we have submitted for 2024, and I'm happy to have recently become a part of this forum!

Happy 2025 everyone!

"Festive, upbeat, and a brilliantly orchestrated Christmas tune! The theme also perfectly matches the storyline of sleigh riding. It almost sounds as if Santa is running a little late, and is rushing to deliver all of his gifts on time. I love this, well done!"

It's probably too late, but I only got around to finishing my little composition today. I wish you all a wonderful new year! Although late, but hopefully my little piece will at least make you happy. Hurray to the snowy countryside for a sleigh ride.
