It is, rather. How about basing them on the YC default theme? (colour wise)

:) To me, the YC default of pink/salmon/brown isn't very pretty either...but it'd be an infinite improvement over the ghastly color schemes some people would come up with, if they had complete control.

{notices Mike's post above}

We're going to allow users to select a colour scheme on their profile, but the choice will stem from a pre-defined palette, comprised of tasteful, aesthetically competent shades. The layout will likely not be customizable, at least not in any meaningful sense.

A wise decision.:P

There's rather a lot of personal info on that profile, Mitchell - our own system will probably be less about you and more about your music, but it will look something like that.

Fair enough. I won't argue with that.

:DIn messages, we should be able to send attahments, and also, a little list of freinds...Like myspace, but not quite,....more funner place to be...Myspace is boring, YC is better.:)

I think we will just use vbulletins pm system to send messages, and we could allow attachments through here but we haven't. And yes there will be a friends list. Furthermore, we are going to provide the site with a full blown instant messenging system built (like aim), and attachments can be sent through there. Note that the instant messenger will eliminate the pager system.

Can we get a general ETA for this whole project? And what's the news on the money bit?

The project is expected to take several months, and cost several thousand dollars. Unless you are referring to member subscription fees, in which case I'll elaborate:

All users will have some space for file uploads. There will, however, be subscription packages which afford more space, along with other little perks. As you can probably tell, we haven't finalised the details, not least the prices themselves.

I'd quite like it so that you could leave messages on someone elses profile, is that what you mean? Or do you mean the system we have in place?

Yup, you'll be able to comment people's profiles. :P

If we run out of space, could we then add pieces to our profile but with links to like, esnips or soundclick?

I don't know. Such a decision lies in the hands of chopin. Hopefully he will respond later when he gets on.

Yay!

EDIT: My post 666!

The word on this is as follows:

We've decided that all submissions must consist of files provided by the user at the time of upload, to then be stored on YC's server. There will not be an option to add a composition and specify an external URL as the source of media or score.

This is mainly to avoid "borrowing" too much bandwidth from other sites (may become an issue if we experience major growth). And again, it also acts as an incentive to subscribe and gain more storage.

Let me make it clear that storage shouldn't be an issue if you stick to uploading MIDI and/or score files. Only if you want to be uploading lots of MP3s will you need to consider upgrading. Or, if you want to take advantage of the other perks...which have yet to be decided.

There's still a little bit left to figure out, if you hadn't already guessed. ;)

My parents will never pay for extra space. Whatever I say they'll think it is a waste of space.;)

But I want to add mp3s....:(

Do you have a VISA Electron card, or anything like that? Even if you're under 18, there should still be one or two payment routes open to you on the internet.

The amount of storage available to non-subscribers has yet to be decided. It will hopefully be enough to upload a few MP3s, though. You'll be given storage in line with chopin's financial means, after which point it will be necessary to charge.

Guest Anders

I'd like to see an ''Opus folders'' feature: the ability to categorise a work as a single work even if it consists of multiple pieces/movements. Something like: Opus 10, Sonata In X Major - Dropdown menu - Mvt, 1 Mvt, 2 Mvt, 3
