  1. Thank you for listening! I agree that this definitely doesn't have the spontaneity of a typical battle score. In my mind, I suppose, it was scoring more of a montage of glimpses of the battles...the struggles...the action. More of an overview of widespread battle as opposed to one, singular battle. Glad you enjoyed listening!

  2. Thanks, Henry, for sharing this. It’s impressive, however it would be doubly impressive if I were able to hear each voices properly, when the full ensemble are playing together. Otherwise, it’s difficult to appreciate what exactly is going on. What software do you use? Have you considered putting it into MuseScore? The sounds on that software are excellent, I find.

  3. I picked too short, bogged down by details, works too derivative and writing idiomatically. Two of those I'd not consider actual weaknesses, but other people I guess do so I checked them. However, there is one which I'd say is not on your list, but is a big problem for me: Technology I really hate working with samples and MIDI, but I hate awful-sounding mockups worse. Unfortunately though, virtual instruments have largely stagnated, and in order to get a good sounding mockup, you often have to sacrifice ideas in favor of what the samples can do, and there is a lot they cannot do. I hope they continue to push the limits with things like Musesounds and Staffpad so that we can all be free of the wicked chains of Kontakt and stitching together note-by-note recordings like a bunch of savages. Creating virtual renditions of romantic-style, or golden-age hollywood stuff is such a soul-crushing endeavor that it makes one yearn for the sweet release of death — or just giving up on music entirely. Hey, maybe AI will be able to make the mockups for us

  4. I'm closing this challenge, as I have scripted the video. I will be recording it tomorrow, and then the editing begins! Thank you to the 5 composers who are going to be starring in this next video. All of your music was a pleasure to listen to and dissect for this challenge.

  6. This is a great foreboding track! For me, I think it sounds more like the preamble to an approaching battle than the battle itself though. A battle film cue is usually much more fast paced with action packed ostinati, unexpected changes in dynamics, melodies that come out of nowhere, and much more rhythmic gymnastics like syncopation and meter changes. Not that you can't have a good battle track without those elements but I think it sure helps to make things more exciting! Your track doesn't have any tempo changes or surprising orchestra hits. Most of the track happens on the beat without syncopation. This makes me feel like the battle is constantly approaching but never really arrives. If you had a sudden quickening of tempo at some point and with a key and meter change that might help deliver the kind of battle you were going for in my opinion. Thanks for sharing! Peter

  7. Great instrumentation and orchestration! Probably better than me with that haha. The only thing I seem to notice is the lack of heavy percussion. Perhaps it’s just my personal preference but I always add epic percussion to my big large battle themes to give them that extra big feel. Ofc it might not be what you’re going for which is totally fine. If you are interested there are some rly good quality free epic percussion libraries and spitfires originals epic percussion is ok with it. Anyways overall fantastic job my guy! Keep up the good work!

  8. Hi @Nazariy, I like the E major one more with that escape tone! It’s more lively haha. I don’t look into the details but they both sound right for me. By the way, seeing three voice fugues here makes me think of my six voice fugue just recently finished. So much easier!!!!🤪🤪!!!!! Thx for sharing! Henry

  9. Hello I re-listened to the original Brahms piano opus earlier.... Because it's always a big risk to orchestrate these things. But I have to say that I liked it very much, it seems to me very coherent and with its own personality, as well as a well constructed climax.
