Thanks for the response. Sorry if I'm being thick but I'm still a bit confused about the distinction between the points:

"a short, written description of the criteria linking the art you chose" and "a written description of the relevance of each artistic work to each movement."

I would have thought that what you said was the latter rather than the former.

Oh. The former is just a summary of the genre of art to the music, and the latter is a description of each work of art to each movement.

Since I have already finished my 4th piece, I might as well signal my desire to enter the competition!

One more clarification: Should I happen to finish my suite and there be a gap of 15 seconds below the 5-minute requirement specified, would I be required to come up with yet another piece (essentially reducing that inspiration-irrelevant piece into something like "judge fodder") just in order to close that gap and meet the requirement (and otherwise have to pay with point penalties)? Or, judging flexibly, would it be considered to have met the requirement despite a ~15-second shortage?

15 seconds is a bit much... if you could come up with another piece, even a coda of some sort, that would sit better with me (though, I don't know if I'm judging yet), personally, but if you really can't it's not a huge deal, I suppose. @Maarten Bauer?

Do you mean that you want a gap of 15 sec. between all four pieces, which makes the complete time when no music is made 15 × 4 = 60sec?

Or do you mean that you have a complete shortage of 15 seconds?

Let me know if anyone is uncomfortable with this, but I will try to compete in this competition. I trust Maarten and Noah to shut me up whenever I try to give any judging opinions.  If I can't get anything down in time, I'll be a judge again, though.

I'm fine with it! I look forward to seeing what you end up writing :)

It's all hypothetical just yet, since I haven't yet finished my cycle of pieces. But it is the second option of course that I am talking about. I do not count the gaps between the music as gaps since they are part of the music.

I think if you really have a shortage of 15 sec. you do not have to compose another 15 sec. because I want that you go for quality and not for time and thus nonsense.

Hey all!

Here's my scoop - I've been working like crazy on my piece but given my teaching schedule it's not looking like I'll be able to finish it. I'm really proud of what I've done and would love feedback :/ Could I post for comments with only three movements finished?

Might there be a possibility to advance the deadline of the competition till at the 15th or maybe even the 20th of September, 2017? I am saying this since there is also a lot of work to do with the art part of the competition besides just composition, making pdf-s, etc. which might call for additional time even if we were to be able to just finish our compositions at the deadline. Besides, I see that Gustav Johnson above is pondering dropping out for the lack of time.

On the one hand, I can understand that it is much work and stress would not benefit the quality of the art works.
On the other hand, deadline is deadline.
I am not sure. Maybe @Monarcheon or @Noah Brode can decide.

Don't know if you remember... normally I'll create a separate thread for submissions so it's all contained. I need another day or so before that.

Thanks. I will repost the link there. By the way, I am still discovering some oversights in the pdf and the score and appropriately correcting. I hope that the judges will not start looking at my submission and judging before the deadline.
