Cello Concerto No. 2, opening

Do you like this? I can't decide if I like it or not and I don't want to keep going with it if it's bad.

I love the melody and the string accopaniment. However, I think you can have more accompaniment or interaction with the cello in the woodwinds. 
To be honest, after 0:30 the music sounded boring and too monotonous to me. Adding extra dimensions in (wood)wind parts could solve this problem.

Anyway, I like it, but of course the shaving still has to be done. Please don't stop, continue!

It's hard to give an opinion of any value without you first giving a context of how you would like this to fit a larger plan. Do you have any snippets of what this in a development section sounds like? My impression from this small bit is a romantic piece, almost Hollywood, no doubt derived from the minor 9th in the tonic. A bit of Perry Mason drama that Luis may be referring to. Not that there's anything wrong with that though it may not serve you well as you try to satisfy the needs of a longer work.  The minor 9th is a very loaded sonority. It might be interesting if you avoided the F as a dominant chord - except for the very last cadence - and  substituted an Fm9 instead. Just an idea. Do you have a link to your first Concerto here?

I have a general outline of the piece, but I tend to avoid physically planning it out, otherwise I find my creativity to become quite lacking. This is the primary bit of the slow section, which transitions into a fast Gershwin Piano Concerto type middle section, ending slow.

Could work well, haven't decided if it's worth pursuing yet, though.

No, it's very aleatoric and extended-technique based, and my program won't allow those types of sounds so I figured it worthless to post.

I think I might upset things and I really hope I don't offend, but it didn't do anything I didn't expect, if that makes any sense?  The melody was not bad, but it was forgettable and I think for a concerto, you have to grab your listener in the first minute or so and I don't think it grabbed me.  That's not to say that it's not worth pursuing, only that I might relegate this to a middle section and try to find a better opener.  Is there a bit of "summertime" in bars 3 and 4?

Hope you don't mind my comments, it's just what came to mind.

No, you're right, I think it's an objectively bad opening. I scrapped the piece a while back :happy: I appreciate the feedback and I agree it's nowhere near my level of writing capability.

I think it's worth developing..  The great thing about computers, is you can add/change/cut/modify..  and always go back to something previous.. 

When I work, I constantly save versions, and make a fast 2 track reference mix..  I try various ideas..  some are good, some sound like garbage the next day.. 

Often I find one instrument from version 10 and a 2nd instrument,from version 15.. should be added together, and i cut something else out.. 

Sometimes I just work on an idea and shelve it, for awhile and come back to it later, and inspiration strikes as to what I should do to get it into shape.
