"secret santa" composing topics event

Featured Replies

Each person who is interested in entering comment your interest on this post, come up with a cool topic with a short backstory and DM it to me. After 4+ people do this, I will randomly select a topic for each person to compose a piece about. Or I could wait longer, depending on what you guys think. We can post them as we finish them and learn who we received the topic from.

Interesting! I love your ideas here.
Are there restrictions on those topics? I ask because some people might end up with more or less to work with. Or is that the idea?

maybe a short backstory with each topic should be required.

I'm not sure I'll have time to do this, so if you (@Left Unexplained) want me to select the topic for each person I can do this. That way you don't know what you are getting.

that would be great!

Okay, so if anyone has stuff to send, send it to me and I'll take care of it. Are there any dats in which I should no longer accept submissions and actually randomize the topics for each person?

I think we will wait until a certain amount of people join in, I was thinking 4 but we could wait for more, I'll start asking around and see how many people we can get

Okay

So am I understanding this right if I say @jawoodruff, @Left Unexplained and I are the people composing (as of now) and @Jean Szulc is the one we're sending our ideas to?

yes but so far it's @jawoodruff , @Moueen Issa , @TheCluelessClariney , you and I, But i think we will wait 2 days for everyone who wants to join to join.

I'm interested.

I'll bite. Sorry if it takes a bit, though. Let me know when to send things to Jean.

I'll send a topic.

You people can start sending me stuff, in a few days I’ll assign each one a theme and we’ll see how it goes.
A quick doubt: should I send the theme I assign to people privately, so that people doesn’t know who got what until the pieces are done, or should I just post them all in here?

I think it would be neat to have it done privately, but I'm OK with whatever. How detailed should the topic we send be?

@Noah Brode
I think one or two paragraphs tops, so that the composer has more room for interpretation.

@Jean Szulc Great, yes, I was thinking of submitting even just a sentence or two.

I might recommend a deadline, so we're not blindsided by an extra person joining in at the last minute...  but maybe that's my competition moderation mindset coming back 🙂

I'd say moday at noon, eastern standard time. It should be enough so that people can decide if they are going to participate.

After people recieve their texts we can then decide the second deadline, because each one will have an idea of how much time will it take to complete whatever they have in mind.

Also, it'd be important for everyone who is going to participate to follow this topic, so that everyone gets notified of any change or announcement.

yes I was thinking privately

So....who is involved in organising this, doing what?

@Quinn I'm the one who will take care of all the submissions, so if you want to participate send your stuff to me. Then, I'll assign each one a random idea, and will send them directly to each person.

So wait, what are we sending? I thought of messaging you but didn't know what to send.
