  1. Years ago, I've composed a Libera Me. When I wrote it, I started by a version a cappella. Finally, I decided to add an orchestra because I thought it could bring the piece to another dimension. What do think about this choice?
  2. Hi ! I've composed this piano piece entitled 'Le Piano Suspendu'. When I was composing this piece I realized it was like if the music wanted to tell a story. Do you feel that too while listening?
  3. The 6th International Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition launches its call for entries For the 6th time, the Ludwig van Beethoven Department of Piano in Music Education at the mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna is inviting to the Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition. In the previous five editions, young composers from over 65 countries submitted around 960 compositions. Since its first edition in 2010, the competition has been committed to promoting contemporary piano literature for children and young people. The task is to write a piano work in a contemporary tonal language that is easily realizable for piano lessons and thus provides young players with adequate artistic access to the music of the present. The Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition is distinguished by its particularly transparent and fair selection process. From the multitude of submissions, a selection of anonymized pieces will be presented in a multi-day judging process by students from the Ludwig van Beethoven Department of the mdw and will be publicly discussed by a renowned, international jury. The upcoming edition gladly welcomes Michael Jarrell, Elena Mendoza, Isabel Mundry, Miroslav Srnka and Marco Stroppa as jury members. The competition prizes are €6,500, €4,500 and €3,500. The award-winning pieces will be published in cooperation with Universal Edition. Audio recordings of these works will also be published on the mdw media library. Composers up to the age of 40 are invited to submit pieces digitally. The deadline for submissions is 20 September 2024. The performances, the public judging process and the decision will take place from 4-7 February 2025 in English in the Fanny Hensel Hall of the mdw and online via live stream. Information about the modalities and procedure of the competition as well as the possibility of submitting can be found at: https://mauricio-kagel-composition-competition.com/ A video of the live stream of the last public final in February 2022 can be found at: https://mediathek.mdw.ac.at/mauriciokagel2022. 6th International Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition Submission period: 20 September 2023 to 20 September 2024 Finale & judging process: 4-7 February 2025 Endowment: €6,500, €4,500 and €3,500 as well as the publication of the work in cooperation with Universal Edition Submission: https://mauricio-kagel-composition-competition.com/ Contact for questions and press mauricio-kagel-kompositionswettbewerb@mdw.ac.at
  4. I'm excited to finally have completed this! EXCEPT for the TIMPANI part!!!! After weeks and weeks of intensive orchestration study and several attempts at an orchestral work. I think this is my first serious orchestral work. The material is straightforward. The work is a combination of through composed and ABA' form. The material develops throughout. The ending finishes with the same material as the first -but with a more clear direction to the finality of the material. I may tweak the ending a bit to make it fit my vision of the section. I'm happy with the material itself -I'd love to have orchestration tips and tidbits. I'll be tweaking the score up to better the work. Overall, I'm happy with it!
  5. Hello all, I haven't posted a piece in a little while so thought I'd share one of my favourite recent works. This piece was written for a young composer competition here in the UK. It was shortlisted (!) and as such I was lucky to receive an astonishingly high quality recording by a period string quartet. I then decided to submit it to the Youtube channel TheExarion for the August 2022 Original Compositions video. Did anyone else from this forum enter a piece? It's a fantastic collection of almost 9 hours of new music! Rather than uploading the score and recording for copyright reasons, I have linked TheExarion's score video below. Hopefully the video will start from my piece, but if not, you can skip to 07:36:00. (There is also a programme note and performance note in the score-video, but I can copy it into a post if anyone would prefer.) Hope you enjoy the piece, and any feedback will be much appreciated!
  6. My latest composition, a piano miniature in G. With some chord progressions i ,,walked'' through some few other tonalities.
  7. Nenad Prokopiev - Four short stories for piano.pdfThe full suit. I like to work with different styles this have more classical approach. The sheet is attached to the post, enjoy.
  8. Two (japanese-styled) compositions, for koto as a main instrument and shamisen. sheet pdf: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1jr1oDRwcdFphaR1nYTwKKmbMSblUQnae shi-gatsu (to the moon)
  9. I was recently invited to participate in a festival in Yerevan, Armenia for which I wrote this piece. It was inspired by the artwork of Nana Aramyan (which you can see in the background of the video) and performed by guitarists Joao Lima of Portugal and Lilit Maridyan of Armenia! Hope you enjoy the work! If anybody is interested, a similar event will be held in London and there will be an opportunity for composers to submit new works. Feel free to ask for details! Alex
