Thanks Henry! Yes, this piece was all about word painting to tell the story, so we start off stuffy and formal, like a formal business letter, and then are surprised with creepy, agitated eighth notes and a spider. My main challenge was trying to make the piece feel cohesive, since there isn't a strict melody or even a single short motif that holds it together. What does repeat are some textures: anxious eighth note sections for the piano at m. 13 and 47, and striding up by quarter note thirds and fourths at m.18 and 52 (the second time fancied up with an added octave and then some dotted eighth rhythms. Hopefully the final result isn't too chaotic. Or is just chaotic enough for suddenly realizing you are holding a live, struggling spider in your hand. Thanks for your thoughts!

henry my brotha, I apologize for replying to you later, but I am very happy you enjoyed my work. I guess the work has a tinge of sadness to it. After ruminating a lot about life + the anxiety I've been through, the work has an inevitable bittersweetness. I hope to record the piece in its full version for my dedicatee. Update: I figured out solution to this dilemia. Screen capture that windows has built in and using a free program window has for the audio. It is not best solution. I just Make music would include MP3 option for exporting audio with VST and exporting video. It is not hard. But after 27 they stop updating.

I happen to discover this lovely YouTube channel. It is mainly solo piano works, but (still) if is the performance of standard works and originals are excellent. Charming pIano works.

Hi @pateceramics! I really like how you use different mood and word painting for different lyrics. The A minor section in b.13 really depicts the agitation to “protest” with short and accented tone, and then the next section you use long slurs to depict the “unspooling thread fine legs”. Next section is like a declamation. And then next section you really “beat” your beat with staccato and accents, and then “relaxes” with longer notes, and ends with longer note value too. The last chord is impossible on Violin. You have a G, B, and G triple stop. The lowest string will be open on G then the next available string is the D string so I would advise using that since it's in the G major tonality. Then you could have a B above to complete the chord. That would be possible to play but currently it's impossible.

Hi @mossy84! I personally find this a really successful attempt to try a sonata allegro and keep the opening motive present in almost every part of the movement. I agree with you that the movement fits more as the Scherzo movement (lots of Scherzo movements are in Sonata form tho). I really enjoy the harmonic progression in the piece which keeps surprising me. In the 2nd subject you start with C major and then modulate to C minor in b.34, which is common in Baroque sonatas, and I think you will do the normal practice by returning to C major again afterwards. But no you modulate a semitone upward and ends the exposition in C sharp minor! That's a real surprise to me. But with the exposition repeat isn't weird at all. You do the same for the recapitulation, first moves to G sharp minor and then returning to tonic A minor, very clever and surprising to do so. The modulation in development section is really colorful and you move as far as to F sharp major and soothingly returns to A minor. Thx for sharing! Henry
