Study in B Minor

Featured Replies

Wrote a short piece in B minor, this time the theme wasn't from improvising. I just wrote this completely on the computer. Hopefully I didn't subconsciously use something from an existing piece...

Catchy piece - I like it. 🙂 Quite modern in it's irregular phrasing which gave it a sense of momentum, but you balanced that with Classical / Romantic harmonies.

I definitely think that catchy motif in the bass could be even more effective it was syncopated (e.g. I kept wanting that second note in the motif to arrive just before the beat it lands on.)

I also think there's easily room for some more material in between the main theme. Also, you could vary that texture a little bit more as there, in my opinion.

Great piece - well done!

I think if you sped it up it would make a good transition in a larger piece. I like it!

This is a very short piece, so I think that the material you have so far works.

The only thing I feel that makes this piece a bit "stale" is the fact that the ideas you are using are often too scalar, creating a general contrast that either the phrase is going up, or its going down. In other words, it doesn't have much of a contour, which imho, could be worked upon.

Also, the back and fourth motion between some contrapunctal measures agains some very homofonic ones makes the whole thing sound a bit "hasty" to my ears. Its like you're swaying between different ideas without getting to the core of neither of them.

As I said, as this is a very short piece it doesn't have much space for development altogether, so my feedback falls a bit flat, but that's what I felt while listening to it.

Pretty good, but short! But there's no rules for duration so *CLAPS*

It sounds cool, well done!

it reminds me a bit of Arabesque from Burgmüller (probably for the minor key and the ascending/descenting fifth).
