Okay, my turn. :D

Why I think I'd be a good reviewer.

I. I always try to be helpful and welcoming to the new members, because I remember when I was myself... :P Those were fun days, no?

II. While I don't have the greatest knowledge of composition, I am ALWAYS learning more. I read through the masterclasses frequently, and look through various websites where composition is discussed.

III. I try to be helpful and encouraging, but also honest. I'm not going to be afraid to point out my opinions on the composition.

I think I'd be best suited for:

1. Large Works (I play in an orchestra myself and I'm often looking at the conductor's score, and learning more about real-life composition. I have been taking private viola lessons for a year, so I know what strings are like. I also play in a concert band, and I can play several instruments in that category, and I often look at my band teacher's scores, as well.)

2. Chamber Music (Like previously stated, I have a good knowledge of strings, particularly viola, and there are many common errors relating to the viola parts in this section, I've noticed.)

3. Either Game/Film or Incomplete works. (I have no knowledge of vocal compositon. I have just a very rudimentary knowledge of Jazz, and likewise with Piano.)

Thanks!

Hello, I would also like to apply for the position of Reviewer.

Although I have only been composing a little over a year, I am learning, and I think being a reviewer would help me learn from others in addition to (hopefully) others learning from my advice. Soon I will be attending college as a composition major, so hopefully I can learn techniques from reviewing different pieces as well as share techniques with others that I learn on my musical journey. My top forum of choice would be Concert/Marching Band. That's what I write 95% of my music for. I've composed pieces played by college and high school concert bands, and I've arranged a few DCI show tunes into Marching Band instrumentation by ear. I play both high and low brass instruments, and I have great expertise on what brass players can handle. I also ask around a lot, and I'm pretty educated on woodwind techniques as well. For that reason, my second forum of choice would be Chamber Music, especially for brass and woodwind uploads. My last choice would be Incomplete works. I sometimes help my friends get through "writer's block" with different suggestions, so this would probably be the best choice. Once I get into college, Choral and Vocal could be an option as my Composition teacher is a choral writer.

Thanks for reading!

I want to be the reviewer position. because I have been a member of the community for about 2 years now and have regularly commented and critiqued reviews placed in most of the uploads categories. I've studied music composition for well by other local composer , and, sometimes , i also have performance for my works , my speed of composition will be as fast as my words for comments on the YC . i know well on every skill for composition , this will be suitable for me to do a deep positive . words for other work That is the reason that I feel i would be well suited for this position.

I. Orchestral

II. Chamber

III. Piano/Keyboard solo

Now that the term has ended, I'm considering devoting some time to reviewing, should my service be needed.

My experience as a pianist, cellist, church musician and music student leads me to believe that I can most intelligently discuss the following forums (in order of desired choice):

1. Piano/keyboard

2. Choral

3. Chamber

Here are links to two articles I've recently written. I link these because of their distinct analytical approaches. The first article discusses the opening of Schumann's Dichterliebe, applying a Schenkerian perspective to bring out small-scale text-music relationships. The second article briefly treats broad techniques employed by Elliot Carter in his Piano Concerto.

I look forward to using my increased free time to contribute to the site.

Hi brooks,

We'd be happy to have you as a Reviewer, but your article writing skills are not really helpful to help us judge your suitability — those just tell us you'd be a great person to go to for wiki contributions! :P

If you'd like to become a Reviewer, we generally encourage you to actually go out and start reviewing: wherever on the site you like. How exactly is your free time looking? We don't require religious dedication, but consistency is nice and you have a tendency of disappearing for months at a time which wouldn't be so good — we can always make you a Reviewer and then just switch you back when your stuff starts again.

In any event, we're watching, so just go forth and review and if we like what we see and read then you'll find yourself promoted soon!

Angela, it's nice you want to participate more, and you have given input on work...but, correct me if I'm mistaken, most of these critiques consist of "Bravo" or "Well done" or other such one-liners. If you want my vote, I need to see that you can give more detailed responses, and that you can give a fairly good amount of them :) I'm sure you can, so please do this for us, ok?

In order for me to give you my support as a reviewer, I would need to see two things:

1. Better grammar skills.

2. More in depth reviews.

Erm.

I'd like to be a reviewer. Though I'm kinda fresh and inexperienced I believe I have sufficient knowledge on form, part writing and particularly piano technique. I'm willing to give feedback on most types of music, excluding probably choral, game/film, pop/rock and electronic. I think I'll do quite well in piano/keyboard solo. I have plenty of free time on my hands, so I can certainly review quite a chunk.

I see you've already given quite a lot of reviews on works in the Piano Forum, and especially on those that hadn't received many (or any!) reviews, so that's a big plus :)

I'll tell you what: if you keep up this great work for a few days, you have my vote to join to Reviewers

John,

Thank you for revisiting this with us. I think we can move forward with this now based on your work and effort. We have changed your status to reviewer and you now have access to the Reviewers forum. I will have a Sr Reviewer send you a message with the details.

Hello, I would like to apply for a reviewer position!

Even though I have been composing for little under a year, I am constantly learning things at a fast rate, and my love for music is very broad, so if i don't know something, i will learn it and try to incorporate it in a way we can all benefit! I think as a forum we are all here to learn and help each other. As a reviewer, I will listen to various pieces and try to learn from them, and in the process share what I can contribute to help them.

Some reasons to chose me:

1. I'm really dedicated and I'm on the forum for a lot of time during the day, and even when school starts again I will make it a habit to come on here.

2. I always try to be kind and encouraging with my reviews, as well as get the point across. That being said, if there is something they should make a note of, I will tell them, but I will also find something within the piece to complement on as well. I think every piece of music is brilliant and every person can find at least one thing they enjoy from it.

Forums (in order of desired choice)

1. Concert/Marching Band.

I've been in band for five years now and have learned so much and i continue to learn. For every piece I've performed I've tried to find a score and a recording to study to help expand my musical and compositional abilities. I play flute and saxophone so I have a good knowledge as far as limitations and ranges go for woodwinds, and I have experience with most brass instruments. I have been arranging since seventh grade and last year was when I really decided this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I mainly write for Concert band, and this will be my focus the moment and I will try to write some orchestral stuff much later in the year.

2. Orchestral.

I play in the school's symphonic orchestra along with our community's youth symphony orchestra like I said above I listen and study the scores (if i can find them, and for the most part i do.) .

3. Incomplete Works

Thank you for the opportunity of letting me apply, and I really hope I am considered!

Thank you for your time.

-Michael.

Michael:

I've looked at your posts on some of the works here (especially Concert Band, which it would be nice to have a Reviewer there: I think it's a fairly neglected forum ), and I appreciate that you've been encouraging and straight-forward at the same time. If you continue this activity, you will likely be granted Reviewer status :) Just keep it up

I would like to be considered as a reviewer for

1. Piano Music, Solo Keyboard

Sample Review 1

Sample Review 2

2. Choral, Vocal

3. Concert, Marching Band

Sample Review 1

Sample Review 2

I have played/studied the piano for 10 years and have most of my technical expertise in this area. I will be majoring in Choral Music Education in the fall, and have classically sung both as a soloist and a chorus member for 7 years, and have been a member of my school's concert band for just as long. I have had numberous leadership positions in my high school's music department, such as Soprano Sectional Leader for 3 years, Drum Major/Assistant Director for 2 years, Assistant Director for the choirs, and Brass section leader for 4 years.

Now that the school year is done, I will have MUCH more time to devote to reviewing music. I hope you will consider me!

Thank you,

Elizabeth

Just so you know, this hasn't been ignored. I'm going to have an answer for you in 24 hours, Elizabeth.

Thanks for your patience,

P.S.> Clever posting a sample review of my piece, Welcome Home. I agree, it could be better, but I'm busy with other things. :)

Hey man.

I wouldn't mind being made a reviewer, as opposed to an editor. I think I'd be better at it and it would be more useful generally to the guys here. Here's where I'd excel most:

1. Chamber Music - my main interest area in composing

2. Choral/Vocal- studying harmony and counterpoint in college

3. Large Ensemble (Orchestral)- play in various orchestras and have a fair idea of its uses and limitations. Have have works performed by the college orchestra.

Because...

[brag]

I'm basically a nice guy, when I give my thoughts I try to balance out the raw truth with something constructive so people can learn from my ideas. I don't go out to troll or be mean, and I think I could be of great service to new members or younger guys. I'm also quite articulate so I can express my opinions without sounding like a douche..

I have a good knowledge of composition (I think..), have been composing for some years, and can see possible errors and room for improvement. Been playing music since age of about 6, so have a good bit of experience behind me. ;) I can tell the difference between a masterfully, well thought out composition and one sequenced before breakfast..

[/brag]

Think that's it really.

I totally didn't even notice or intend that! How ironic....

Hi Sabian,

We've seen your request here and thank you for your interest. Sorry it has taken time for me to reply here, but I've been attending to things.

Our Sr Review staff is discussing your request now. We will contact you with any questions, but you can expect a response within a month's time or less.

In the meantime, be sure you're reviewing works and staying active here at YC. This will all factor into our consideration. If you have any writing samples of reviews you've written for other members, you should post some links here of your best representations.

Thanks,

Review Staff

Well, if y'all will have me, I'd like to throw my hat in the ring. I basically do this anyway.

I'm by no means an accomplished composer: still well in the amatuer/hack stage. But I think I make a good reviewer not because of my training as a classical and commercial player but moreso the fact that I make it a point in my private studies to figure out what specifically it is I like or don't like about something and why. I'm also pretty open-minded. I subscribe to the school of thought that the composer is truly the one who writes the rules. But of course, if your rules turn out ineffective, I'll say so too.

Anyway, I'd like to primarily review pieces in the large ensemble, chamber ensemble, solo piano and/or jazz forum. Do a quick search of my posts, you'll run into a good number of my posts which are reviews.

Posted

Well I try to comment on everything I listen to, but I wouldn't mind be a reviewer in the Game/Film Music department as well as Jazz and Electronics - where I think my competence lies.
