  1. Here's one of the first choral pieces I've ever completed. Feedback would be great, thanks.
  2. Hi everyone! First time posting one of my works here. This is a short piano piece I wrote several months ago for a friend, inspired largely by the rhythms of Latin American music. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I always aim to write music that takes the listener on a journey in some way or another, and I think I've achieved that with this piece (but would be happy to hear your thoughts). The Vexatious Venturer.pdf.
  3. I wrote a new song in the past 2 days. It is a samba type fusion music. I incorporated my JP-8080 to death and my live horns. Tell me what you think, comment and follow me here or SoundCloud or Instagram @wind_player1 https://www.instagram.com/wind_player1/ Listen to Validus by Cj Rhen #np on #SoundCloud
  4. Small piano piece influenced by Puerto Rican rythm from the folk mountains mixed with an "classical" language.
  5. I'm sure I could find more things to fidget with, but I'm tired of staring at it. Anyone else want to stare at it for me instead? Suggestions for notating the piano reduction are particularly welcome. I'm not a pianist and there are a lot of moving lines to squish in there. I'd love to know what people think in general. Score attached so you can follow along with the words while you listen. The text is from the psalms and translates to "As a hart longs for the flowing streams, so longs my soul for thee, O God." Hart is an old fashioned word for "deer." It's also a pun on the word "heart." Thanks! Here's a youtube with the score rolling by:
  6. SLICE for violin and piano (Soulful Latin In a Classical Environment)
  7. This piece is about the suffering and the passion of Jesus Christ. " Tenebrae (Latin for "shadows" or "darkness") is a Christian religious service celebrated in the Holy Week within Western Christianity, on the evening before or early morning of Monday, Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday." (Read more at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenebrae) With this composition, I'm trying to let pure emotions lead the melody and the harmonies. The first part is about the suffering, but from the middle part to the last (repeated) canon-like part of the piece, I tried to draw up the salvation.
  8. Hi everyone! I am working on an arrangement for jazz band that is almost entirely in 9/8 or 9/4. As with most latin charts, this arrangement will rely on a solid percussion groove. However I don't know a whole lot about latin rhythms apart from what I picked up by watching our high school jazz drummer, and on top of that, I can't find any examples of 9/8 latin to build off of. I was hoping there might be an expert here who knows of any musical examples that apply to what I'm trying to do, or who can give me some much-needed advice! Attached is my attempt at my 9/4 latin groove, with the option of two different bass drum parts: drum sample 2.pdf In the above drum pattern, I am trying to accommodate for two different beat divisions, which fit two different bass guitar lines at different parts of the song: 1) 9/8 + 9/8 or 3-2-2-2 + 3-2-2-2 2) 7/8 + 7/8 + 2/4 or 3-2-2 + 3-2-2 + 2-2 Since I don't really know exactly what I'm doing, I would appreciate any comments/suggestions. If you need more detail into what I'm aiming for please let me know. Thanks!
