  1. Hi there, I wanted to share with you this acoustic cover I made of the song Kids aren't Allright. Please excuse if there are some mistakes with my pronunciation as english is not my native language. I hope you'll enjoy it anyway Kids aren't allright - Offspring
  2. I wanted to create a dark and romantic mood in this song. The lines are short on purpose. I wanted simplicity, going for emotion as opposed to making a statement. I look forward to your feedback.
  3. Hey everyone! This piece is something unusual to me, as I was always writing my original music, but this time I made a re-make of a 80's pop song which was a major hit in Slovak radios back then. I have been asked by the artist himself-Peter Nagy, to do a different version, something in the romantic/movie piano style of my other compositions from the album that I gifted to him, and so I gladly agreed and here's the result. You can also listen to the original 80's version by Peter Nagy here. On the top there's the original version and down below there's my version. I hope you'll like it! P.S. my version is also included on my debut piano album which you can listen to or buy here https://oliverbohovic.bandcamp.com/album/ballerina

    Revive

Hi, This is one of my compositions. Revive promo tune.mp3 It would mean a great deal to me if I could get some feedback. Feel free to share your opinions with me.
  5. Hi everyone. This is a famous chord progression used in the chorus in pop songs, in the key of C major: F - G - Em - Am - Dm - G - C :|| However, there is a variation of this chord progression. After the repeat, the bass goes as: F# - F - E - Eb - D - G - C Can anyone figure out what are these chords? I'm assuming that they are: F#dim or F#m7-5 - Fm7 - C/E - Ebdim - Dm - G - C Here is an example of the chord progression: Thank you very much!
  6. Hi, it's been a while since I posted so I thought I'd show something off while I work on a large orchestral piece I'm taking my time on. The drums, rhythm guitar, and bass, was from a free backing track I've found on Youtube; the lead guitar is what I've done (the part with the terrible quality haha) The next one is where I am working on my guitar solos. I believe I hit one wrong note outside of the key of D Major (very noticeable) And I know there are a lot of random notes, I was freestyling...didn't necessarily write it down like I did the first one.
  7. Hello, I thought I would share this song I wrote from the new musical, Jesse James: DEAD OR ALIVE. The show is based on the life of the Western outlaw Jesse James. The music has a rock/Americana style so I thought this might be the best area to post. Thank you for listening! https://soundcloud.com/emlaproductions/ride-on-from-jesse-james-dead
  8. Hi there, I wanted to share with you this french song that I wrote a few months ago and which was rematsrered by a friend of mine. To help you with the understanding, I added some subtitles that you need to start on youtube. It's a love song about a man who wants to leave for a further town called "Palaman City" asking his girl to follow him. I let you discover the song. Thank you all Here are the lyrics translated: You see it all starts and ends with music With a delicate walking You get closer and lean, magnificent With a sweet kiss everything shines In an instant I give up My skin is crawling, I'm attracted to you, magnetic You want me to follow you to Palaman city, Palaman city,Palaman city, oh That I kiss you in Palaman city, city,Palaman city,Palaman city, oh An artistic life in Palaman city,Palaman city,Palaman city, oh That I beep you in Palaman city,Palaman city,Palaman city,oh You play and attract me in an acoustic world I want to take advantage of your knowledge And your volcanic mouth Our bodies are getting closer, And melt, hypnotically Your delicate fingers come, And show me how to do You want me to follow you to Palaman city, Palaman city,Palaman city, oh That I kiss you in Palaman city, city,Palaman city,Palaman city, oh An artistic life in Palaman city,Palaman city,Palaman city, oh That I beep you in Palaman city,Palaman city,Palaman city,oh A no, you mess up and find me hysterical We will no longer be for a lifetime, You and me cheek to cheek You leave but I stay in Paris, It's so chic I told you it all starts and ends with music That I kiss you, that I kiss you, that I beep you, that I leave you, oh That I kiss you, that I kiss you, that I beep you, that I leave you, oh You want me to follow you to Palaman city, Palaman city,Palaman city, oh That I kiss you in Palaman city, city,Palaman city,Palaman city, oh An artistic life in Palaman city,Palaman city,Palaman city, oh That I beep you in Palaman city,Palaman city,Palaman city,oh
  9. Here's a piece I just finished (I hope).. Called Island Dreams, I hoped to catch the feeling of lightheartedness, and happiness. It started with more of a Reggae beat, But I modified it back to only a hint of Reggae (organ, flutes part) Island Dreams - Island Dreams Score - https://app.box.com/s/rr9sxhn4v9ccx1xhr2gkbzvnkv1g318z
  10. Here's a piece I did 3 years ago.. Exploring EZ listening, trying to sooth ravaged nervous system, which seems to be so common, as we age, and still try to take the world seriously. I built a sound palette using 'comfort food' sounds.. This way the song was already half way there. I've been interested in the psychological impact of the sound of particular instruments.. I started with the premise there were several instruments in the conversation, each with a similar attitude, but slightly different point to add (specific motifs for each).. Like an accordion, can sound corny, but it also can sound very comforting, remind you of your ethnic background (if that fits, being 1/2 Italian yes).. It will also automatically draw up feelings of nostalgia, if the right melody, and modal scales are used.. The epiano, along with its chords, draws in a relaxed atmosphere.. (some Mike McDonald, Dooby Brothers easy pieces).. I threw in some jazz electric guitar soloing, to make is sound 'sophisticated?'.. The flute of course always conjures up a certain frame of mind.. The mellow sax, furthers the relaxed state of mind.. There is a fair amount of dialog between the different instruments, almost makes it feel like a 'town meeting', between instruments, regionality of instruments home land.. The sax and jazz guitar double at the end, letting the listener know the instruments are in complete agreement in their conversation.. The mellow brass, and simple high strings, set the framework for the whole conversation. During this period (and still to the present), I most often start with a chord progression, experimenting a fair amount, with substitutions, sine waving with simple to complex chords, coming back down, Playing with pacing of chord changes, to further vary the dialog.. Then I often just 'jam' with different instrument sounds, till I get an instrument actually making some kind of statement. When I start to get a couple of musical instrument statements, I begin the process of actually having them 'dialog' with each other.. I know some here don't appreciate the large number of instruments/sounds I sometimes use.. But it seems an area of exploration, I must work my way thru.. I do truly admire those who get a point across with a minimum of instruments.. but I feel obliged to experiment in the area. As piece comes together, I sometimes have to go back and delicately alter chord progression, because of new chords implied by specific notes of a melodic motif.. So for me, the process of composing is much like having a woman's complex dress (with many different panels and colors) sitting on a dress form.. I am constantly going here, letting something out, tucking in another area.. taking one panel out, and replacing with two different colored panels, filling the same shape. Another way of looking at it, is 'creating' a cross-word puzzle'. You start with a couple of nice big complex words, then you have to fill in the rest of the puzzle with words, that will fit. I have recently been 'binge watching' video on Amazon Prime.. I recently finished two series, 'The Wire' and 'Falling Skies'.. Each one was five seasons long.. They both gave me insight into how they could continue a story line, over such a long period.. In both series, both shows, killed off some actors, introduced new ones, in each succeeding season.. A pattern I clearly see in my life at the age of 68 now.. Life is a series of chapters, (like the seasons of a TV show). Each season, or chapter in our lives, has a central focus.. Some issues get resolved, others carry on for part, some or all of our narration. Some characters, carry through several or most chapters.. In one's one life, if we are lucky we get to have a significant person, (mate, best friend) be there for the whole show.. Other people are involved for a certain amount of time.. This works perfectly with a long piece of music. I am intrigued by the possibllities of certain instruments, being particularly actors, carrying the story line forward, the plot twists and turns, to keep interest alive.. but fundamental issues, carry through the whole story. In both series, and from what I've noticed in the patterns of life, some characters, resolve their conflicts, yet others still remain almost the same, in spite of everything that has happened to them.. Some get the lesson, and adapt, others do not, and are doomed to repeat the same cycle.
  11. Here's a piece I just recently finished.. The main motif, is only 4 bars long, which got boring pretty quickly.. I split the riff up between different instruments.. also created variations of it. Then a counterpoint riff also give it further diversity..
  12. Here's a song I wrote a few years ago.. It features Wolf Johnson. He sang the Baby Back Ribs commercial, also played in a Temptations Review band for many years.. Back up singing by Jeanne Otis - worked as back up singer for Kool and The Gang for a couple of years.. Both very talented individuals
  13. Hello Guys, Today I present you a collaboration that I made with a young singer called Elyos a few months ago. It's a song that describes what in my opinion leads to happiness. The words and music are mine, the singing is his as you'll notice I Think ;-) To help you with the understanding, I added some subtitles that you need to start on youtube. Please like if you enjoyed the song :-) You can listen and follow me here : on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcZqCDfr8fUkN1UBLTqbzcA on Twitter https://twitter.com/bielkamusic on facebook : https://www.facebook.com/Bielka-Music-1368356019843598/
  14. Hi there, I wanted to share with you this other song that I wrote a few months ago. I changed some stuff recently and just reposted it on Youtube. To help you with the understanding, I added some subtitles that you need to start on youtube. It's (again) a love song about a man who wants to leave for a further town called "Palaman City" asking his girl to follow him. I let you discover the song. Thank you all
  15. Here's a song I did a few years back. The Tangerine Doves, kind of a feel good, EZ Funk piece I guess. Loose and Happy.. Didn't realize I was already starting to use Sound EFX (Thank you Abbey Road)..
  16. Here is a piece I did long distance with my friend Warren from Baltimore... It started as a different piece.. I stripped all he music out, changed chords, and built an arrangement around his amazing vocals..
  17. This is one of those songs that just spilled out of me. It was just "right there." I started this by visualizing a scene and then writing what I was seeing and feeling. The chords are meant to mirror the emotions. I really wanted to get some rich, warm colors to go with the emotions in the lyrics. I wrote the words and music. It's performed by two other artists. Hope you enjoy it, I'd love to get your constructive feedback.
  18. This is my first official release... What do you guys think? I'm still not sure if it could be called pop/rock/alternative... a friend sudjested "symphonic pop" but is that really a gerne? Anyway... The show went on! Spread the word and hope you enjoy this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdC0Ila2Dqs
  19. The Road Less Traveled - by Mark Styles This is a long piece.. It does have a theme motif, but is more of a musical journey than a song. My first intention was to work with key transpositions. Cause I never really cared for them when I was younger, I regarded them as a cheesy device, when you ran out of ideas.. There have been examples where transpositions are very powerful and moving, and others where it’s just too predictable.. I had sone fun, transposing, and even got it to match the confusion at one point, I wanted the song to convey I use a pallete of traditional sounds but also made more use of artificial sounds, with 3rd party plug-ins, (Audio Units in Logic Pro) cause I wanted to evoke a certain feeling of nostaligia, but also of uncertainty, and alienation.. I applied the computer equivalent to tape manipulation, spicing, backwards tape, etc for other more unworldly sounds. I’ve been taking a course at coursera.org.. ‘Biology as Music”.. It studies how are our bodies were designed to process music, how certain aspects of the relationships of partials, and resonance will evoke specific emotions out of humans.. How our first language was actually mimicking animal sounds. How we even use pitch in our speech to add an extra layer of meaning to our communication.. So it got me thinking that the use of untraditional sounds, will cause the brain to react differently, cause the sound can’t be defined as being something particular. so the brain, will ‘keep an eye on it’.. I started with some chord tracks, but replaced all tracks, mostly with one line parts.. The piece is 6/8 - but I attempted not to make that real obvious. I did that by having certain instruments play notes, that might be counted out in 4/4 time.. So I wouldn't always hit, the 1 beat, I'd hit the 2 beat (trying to trick your brain into thinking it's 4/4 time).. I thinned things a lot too - so as to not have a timed feel (at least that was what I was aiming for) Not entirely successful, but it does take away from the strict feel of 6/8 time. Yes, I was a 'Flower Child of the 60's'.. so this is music for those of us who remain from the 'Flower Power Generation'.. just easy listening now, no FUZZ guitars. I'll use one in another piece later, once I figure out how to use the iPad to change the EQ on my hearing aid (just kidding - no hearing aid yet).. (Mark Styles©2016 Pliant Tunes BMI)
  20. Could anybody tell me which meter is written in as well as in what tonality and are there any changes ?
  21. Hi there! I'm working on arranging Eleanor Rigby for my college A Cappella group. It's my first arrangement, indeed my first composition, that I've ever finished and that will ever be performed. So far, however, I'm not terribly pleased with how it sounds, and I'm not sure why. I was wondering if you guys could take a look at my work and give me some suggestions on what to change, and what might make it sound better! Thanks! We started learning it Monday, and... it's ok. But it's not great, and I don't know why. Something's off about it. Now, I think some of it might be that we're still learning it, and don't have great sight readers. But I'm concerned that some of the problem is the arrangement. So if you could give me some advise that would be very appreciated! Eleanor Rigby.pdf Eleanor Rigby.mid
